At what point is a HKS DLI 2 needed?

I am trying to make a 400 to 450 WHP car here. Maybe the Buschur 20G or GT3071 setup. A car with hopefully a good powerband. Is this ignition box needed when running 2 heat range colder plugs? Or is it more of a ignition failsafe? If there is such an animal. Thanks for any help.

I asked AMS if they recommended one with my 50 trim (450hp) and they said no I didn't need it. Hope that helps ya.

I guess AMS doesn't put the HKS DLI2 on there for a reason?

Basically your ignition produces an incredible amount of power (voltage) and unless you've got a dedicated drag car making 1000hp plus its not really needed. If you dont believe me take a spark plug out and crank your car and touch it and see what happens... lol Please dont really do it....

I find that the DLI-II makes for a much smoother idle on cars with cams or injectors. It not only increases spark energy but it is a CDI, so it give a multiple spark discharge. I have one on my Evo and have been very pleased with it. I hope that helps!

I'm running a completely stock ignition system, including stock heat range plugs.

The DLI helped smooth out my car a lot at WOT and I only make about 325whp (Mustang dyno)

I just put a DLI on my car. I believe it helped at high RPMs at the track.
I hit my highest trap speed to date. The car didn't feel as if it fell off as much at the top end.

Also, and I can't say for sure if it's related, but after I installed it, I took a trip (me and the GF went to Six Flags)
and I got over 350 mi on that tank of gas. I usually get 300-320 for that kind of highway driving.

For what it's worth when we ran over 25 psi we got ignition break up on the 50 trim. This was with AEM EMS, stock plug wires, and one heat range colder than stock NGK plugs gapped at .024". With the ignition box and no other changes it ran 32 psi no problem. Perhaps AMS knows something about your setup that I don't...like that you're running upgraded wires or a difference management system etc.

Adding a DLI II certainly can't hurt as long as you install it properly, so if you're unsure you can wait until the car misfires or you can play it safe and add it in advance. Personally I like to take care of something as potentially dangerous as full load misfires up front.

what was the difference in MPH between .015 with stock ignition & .024 with the DLI?

Are you all just integrating the DLI II to your stock ignition harness or using a COP? If so, who's parts? And who's got good deals on the HKS DLI II?

Thanks.
