Evo 4G63 Engine Rotation Direction

Does an Evo 4G63 spin reverse of a DSM 4G63?

I always hear about it spinning backwards compared to an Eclipse engine, but I think that's silly. I really have no info to base my opinion off of, and that is why I ask. I'm sure someone could go start their engine, take a peek and tell me.

No, It only rotates backwards in Austrailia. Like our USDM toilets do.

Ha, that's a good one. I remember that episode of the Simpsons like it was yesterday. When Bart gets the Boot.

Anybody have this info? Seems like pretty simple info for someone to gather that has one of these cars. Of course I mean Evo4 and up.

So what is it.. clockwise or counter-clockwise?

I am pretty sure its clockwise, just as the DSM 4g63 engines rotates. Its the same block, just rotated 180 degree's. Head is the same for the most part. CAS is tapped on the exhaust cam rather than intake, etc. When doing timing or touching the timing belt, you always want to rotate it clockwise or else you risk the possibility of throwing timing off by putting slack in the belt itself.

Cool. That might make for some interesting RWD swaps.

Is the bellhousing pattern the same on the Evo 4G63? That would be 12.25" between lower bellhousing bolts. Less likely it would be the "RWD" pattern with 13.25", but you never know.

It is clockwise

The engine is not rotated 180 degrees, the intake manifold is still on the firewall side, the exhaust manifold is still on the radiator side. The engine is "mirrored", the accesories and the transmission are on opposite sides.

When doing the timing belt you have to rotate the engine counterclockwise 1/4 turn in order to move the slack in the belt to the tensioner.

Would an evo engine swap right in and would it be worth it?
