Since the filter adapter doesn't match up to the MAF sensor housing, I had to make this out of the sheet metal:

It's in the rough stages now, I'll clean it up and smooth out some of the rough edges before I permanently install it. Doing some test runs, I noticed that AFR dropped from about 10.7:1 to 9.7:1 WOT so I will definitely need to retune to get any gains from it.

Are you serious? It's a cone filter adapter. Props to him for using his brain instead of his wallet. Any retard can go out and just buy parts, it's takes a real enthusiast to actually fabricate something that works as well as the vendor equal.

this is in NO WAY is a homemade INTAKE .. it is a homemade FILTER KIT! Plus it cost u just about the same price as buschurs filter kit, only buschur kit looks cleaner. IMO

 

It's a cone adatper man. If you can't handle thinking outside the box and making one yourself get a new hobby.

 

Dude, the K&N cone WITH the nice adapter is only $60 from AMS--probably less from others.

 

You're right. Since I had the money for the mighty evo, then I obviously have the money to buy whatever parts I want.

My goal here was to make something for MY car, not your car. I will do what I want because it is my car. I plan on making quite a bit else for my car as well, then I plan on tuning it myself. I'd rather not pay other people to build and tune my car.

As for the filter, I logged with the stock and with the filter adapter, 1.5bar to redline, 4th gear.

Don't mind the TPS values, I haven't setup the channel correctly yet.


I am using the stock air box for now, since I am not going to reflash just for the intake right now. I may be converting to a speed density setup anyway, which is why I didn't want to buy something that I may not use in the future. The filter itself I can still use, even if it is the worst one for an evo evAr.

To the others who had less positive things to say, thank you as well, since all criticism is requested and appreciated. If I was scared of people knocking my ideas, then I wouldn't post them on a public forum.

 

I think the idea of doing it yourself is great and being able to pop your hood and know u custom fabbed some things your self is a good feeling. I think people were just commenting mostly on how there was no money saved. It was the same cost as any other filter kit and that its not an intake u made... it was a filter kit. But good job

I think someone was doing a little to much before they did this.
But I do admire your desire to make your own adaptor... I made my own battary tray, cause I couldn't see paying $100+ for some sheet metal, it cost me $10 in materal, and a few hours of my time. Also picked up an Oddessy pc680 for $80. So all in all I got $90 in the whole thing
