GT35R + stock block *help*

Hey guys..

I tried searching but none came up with someone using a standard block for the GT35R.

I've got Tomei 280s, Tomei Valve springs, Tomei cam pulleys, Tomei 1.2mm MG, etc.
Basically normal bolt on parts and a done up head with AEM ems.
Running standard internals for now, lack of $$$

Planning to get a GT35R with a 0.63 a/r.
Car is a DD but will see the drag strip from time to time.

1. At what rpm would the GT35R start to come on ?
2. At what rpm would it achieve 18-20psi ? (100 octane)

*thanks in advance*

Get your flame suit ready. Normally a 35r will see full boost anywhere from 4900-5500 rpm. 20psi is too low for a 35r, you will need to crank it up at least to 25psi to see its potential. Make sure your head bolts are upgraded. 410whp - 440whp at a minimum.

In my opinion, I would rather run 272's to reduce some of the lag (more mid range torque). Good luck on your project, hope you have a spare car

I know you've already said that you are getting a GT35r but why not consider a 50 trim turbo?

If you're sticking with stock internals, this is really the turbo to get. Capable of 400+ whp with much less lag than a GT35r. Plus it has potential to push into 500whp range with race gas (and here is where built internals would be a good idea).

just a suggestion it would make for one hell of a DD

I have HKS 264in/272exhaust combo, and I hit full boost between 4600-4700rom. Pump gas psi is 24.5. Made 435whp at that boost level.

You may have a little more lag due to your cams being so big. And if i were you i'd run more boost than 20lbs. I'm having meth installed and i'll be running 33lbs.

35R spooling at 4900-5500? Where the hell do you get your information from? Most people can spool 42R's before those numbers.

I will be reinstalling my 35r this weekend. I have a map sensor hooked up so I'll be able to log RPM and boost to give you an accurate real life idea of what spool up will be like on the street. Although I believe this information has been posted many times before... you need to search for it though.

so i should use Procams 270s instead to minimise lag ?

most of the ppl using GT35R here are using the one with the 0.82 a/r right ?
i'll be getting the 0.63 a/r one from Garrett itself.

the problem is I think I'll go for a stroker only sometime next year.
So i have to stick to the stock block for now,
dont mind getting a bigger turbo now rather than buy a different turbo again.

cheers..

Before my 2.3, I ran my 35r on the stock block with all the mods listed in my sig. I saw full boost (32psi) at 5000ish. Imo, the 35r needs to be ran at 28psi or higher in order to be effective. this is not a pump gas friendly turbo (unless u run meth as I do). Hope this helps.

thanks for that link, Spooldyou. All the best for your project.

denolloyd,

atleast 28 psi ? damn. thats a lot of boost for the stock motor.
what a/r is your GT35r ? what was the compression of your motor ?
