Its not always abuse.. trying to drive "Too smoothly" and feathering your shifts could lead to premature clutch wear too.. I'm sure its a combination of the two.. most of us are guilty of it.. and I'm sure AWD has its own share of issues with driving style..

Oh.. I did notice alot of people have a habit of resting their foot on the clutch pedal when their not shifting.. I wonder if that would be just enough pressure to cause just enough slippage to cause problems?!?!?

That's a major contributor to premature clutch wear (riding the clutch that is). You wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference but it builds up I s'pose.

Same clutch as the VII, right? They're notoriously easy to kill, especially when launching is involved. 8 launches = 8 chances for premature clutch slippage and/or failure. I think gvr4 kill the clutch on his EI VII in record time when he had the car.

Yep, sure did. Less than 2000 miles. I can probably tell you that the clutch will NOT be under warranty. When you purchased the car, you where suppose to sign a form that states that the clutch and brakes are not covered, unless they fail from manufactors defects. Go ahead and get yourself a twin plate when they pull your tranny down to tell you it from abuse. Its a known problem, but I would rather replace a clutch than a tranny. Good luck.

the warrenty says if it is normal wear it won't be under warrenty... and 5000 miles is not normal for a clutch to go out...

You guys that have dead clutches with cars at the dealership, please let me know what happens, because I know mine isn't going to last forever.

They will absolutely tell you it's from abuse. The clutch will slip rather easily by comparison to other AWD cars, etc. The dealer is told to look for any discoloration from heat on the flywheel and deny warranty. I saw one from another EVO driver who took it into the dealer. The "kitty hair" was all over everything inside and the flywheel was rainbow colored. They'll be expecting it and be ready to snap pics and deny any coverage. You might as well assume you'll need to throw a twin plate in there and a new flywheel.

well my dealer told me that it was abuse and that they went to bat for me.. they're getting me a new clutch it's being ordered right now. anyway i still don't see how i abused it, like i said earlier i drove my wrx alot harder and it held up fine.. another thing that i don't understand is.. why would mitsu make a performance car that has such a ****ty clutch... if i'm having problems then it's just a matter of time till everyone with an evo is going to be in the shop with the same problems.. one more thing.. so does anybody think that they (mitsu) know they have a problem on their hands? i mean if it was user abuse.. why would they go to bat for me?? any comments...

I am willing to bet part of the problem is that stupid restrictor mistubishi put in the car.

If you think your letting the clutch out fast, your not, especially if your expecting the clutch to grab faster than the restrictor allows.
