All things equal, a properly configured GT series turbo will out perform a properly configured 50 trim in every possible way (better spool-up, more power, better transient response, etc,.) We're comparing circa 1970s diesel truck technology to cutting-edge turbo design used to win races. Come on now
We used to use 50-trims back in the late 90s on Impreza 2.5RS turbo kits (Before the WRX came out). For our performance goals, they were the best of the old T-series turbos. And they were also very inexpensive ($400-500). The GT series turbos, back then, weren't available since HKS had some sort of proprietary deal with Garrett Japan.

Until I see a 3076R outperform a BB 50 trim I would say that you are basically splitting hairs on this issue. Especially when considering the Evo as a platform; I have actually seen more dynosheets of BB 50trim cars surpassing the output from 3076R. There are many variables in the numbers, but you can't go wrong w/ either and you can see what my choice was
I'd like to know, if it isn't tacking too far off course, relative to the original post..., what is the exact difference between a Garrett 3076 and a Garrett 3037 turbo. Some people say that they are the same thing while others say that the 3037 is the larger of the two.

Every thing on paper suggests that a 3076R would outperform a BB 50 Trim in every way.
Every test and review on this site has suggested otherwise. The Turbo Trixx and AMS 50Trim kits are nailing 500WHP on race gas and 450WHP on pump.
OLD technology or not, that 50 Trim was and still is the ultimate pump gas turbo and works PERFECTLY with the 2.0.
I say get the BB 50 Trim, yeah it's old, but EXTREMELY proven and guaranteed to work well with the Evo.
FYI the 50 Trim is what, 49 Pounds of air? The GT30R is 52?, just ****s' hairs gentlemen.

I can see it's a very fine line debate which i can compare to buying a new laptop system or a Pro-Digicam: they're all powerful, reliable and proven.. Wether it's the manifolds, turbo or the power gain, i cant see any member in the forum with such a disapointing reply! Everyone's happy with what they got!!
What matters it seems is the peripherals around..
So I guess it rounds up to which vendor offers a better service since i am so far away, who is giving me a mail-flash along (SBR is sure ready and Shearer has shown their positive response..)
Thanks for replies,
Wael

I would steer Clear of SBR especially if you are out of the Country. They just seriously fuct a guy over sees and ONLY deal with money order, so your cash is gone and they will take advantage. You are in Dubai, everyone is rich there. Go get some cash from those Pajama racers and get yourself an AMS kit. Over priced but VERY nice.
funny!!
But unfortunately i am really striving to get the finance for the project!
Ok, following ur step.. contacting AMS and already mailed nick at Buschur awaiting response..

Hey Wael,
I was in Dubai this summer and I stopped by an Evo shop that does Ecutek flashes. I believe it was off of Shiek Ziad road coming out of Dubai.
There were a lot of rally-preparred evos there and the guy seemed OK. What sort of reputation does he have down there? He wanted something like 4000 Dirhams (~$1100) for an intial flash and then 2000 for each adjustment flash
Sorry for going off topic but I'm taking my evo back home to Qatar and I was wondering if this guy was any good.
Take care,
Shaheen

Im pretty happy with my "circa 1970 diesel truck technology" 50trim. That is laughable actually. It is a great pump gas turbo that has been proven to make good power. The last time I had the car tuned it 430 whp / 385 trq @ 22 psi on pump gas. Whether it has been around forever or not, it performs. GT30's are great turbos, but to say the bb 50trim will be outshined by the 30r, or is inferior is not true. Do a search and look at the numbers people are putting down, on both setups..
OK, if you want to see what a Garrett 3076 makes on pump and pump+alky....
I am installing mine as I type this. Vishnu v500 kit.
http://www.vishnutuning.com/evo_Stage2_v500.htm
Stock block, stock intake and exhaust manifolds, stock airbox and filter, stock MAF, stock upper IC pipes, Stock head, stock Intercooler.
AMS Water Injection (100% meth), 680 injectors, full exhaust (no cat), turbo adapter collar (Vishnu), Lower IC pipe, HKS 264 Intake cam, 272 Exhaust cam set -2 -2. Xede Piggyback, XFlash.
Dyno day October 14th.
My opinion, after reading for days and days is...
Stock turbo < Stock + Hotside
Stock + Hotside = White Rabbit (WR made less at my last dyno day than stock...LOL)
White Rabbit < EVO IX Turbo
EVO IX Turbo < TME
TME < 50 Trim
50 Trim = 3071 (or VERY close to each other on pump 93)
3071 < 3076 (now we are in the race gas turbo''s....)
3076 < GT35
GT35 < GT37
I know the 50 trim has all kinds of configs just like the GT30 and up. Flame on!

Just buy either a 50 trim or 30r kit from any popular shop except SBR, and decide on which on your own, because both turbos are similar, and most shops and kits are similar.
Talk to Scott at TTP-Engineering about his Eflash custom tune, i think you will be very interested as it seems to be a great concept and superior tuning method to a "guess-in" aka "mail-in"; and should net more power.
Also, i think it would be beneficial to look into upgraded cams
. Nice logical setup though none the less.
