A cardboard bypass valve will not work as well as a metal one. So it could let dirty oil past the filter material.

That isn't a gamble worth taking on an engine in a $30,000 car.

Mitsu filters work, AND they are CHEAP!

Put a worm-gear band clamp around the oil filter. Tie some safety wire around the band clamp. Tighten down the clamp. Now fasten the other end of the safety wire to something on the engine block or oil filter housing such that if the wire were to get slack, it would only tighten the filter.

Not sure I understand completely but if I was under the car I think I get what you are talking about. Thanks.

It's true that all aftermarket parts must meet manufacturers specs. I use the filter just to make sure there is no hassle later. I think it's kind of silly to think that only the filters are any good.... That's an argument that all peeps make about their cars.. "only use Honda filters in your Honda, only use Subaru filters in your Subaru, ..etc.". I have the sneaky suspicion that most manufacturers filters are made by "outside sources" just like lots of other parts of the car.... Just for information, these "outside sources" often make their products under other brand names..... I don't know who makes the filters for but there is a good chance that they might make the same filter under a different brand too....

Still, just for safety, I'll stick to the factory parts for now... After all, $2 or $3 difference in price seems hardly worth the bother....

It does not use cardboard bypass valve.. it uses a cardboard endcap.. which really isn't too big of a deal.. unless it seperates..

But most of these filter elements are paper, and glued together, so there is just as much of a chance of that happening.

OK, I'm done with this, people are driving me crazy!
And you're driving them crazy too. You state things like "you're all suckers" and don't expect some response? I'll stick with Mitsu filters myself too. Every time I've purchased aftermarket, PepBoys **** for my DSMs in the last 8 years, I've been sorely disappointed in the fit and quality when compared to the OEM equivalent. I'm going to have to assume the same is true for oil filters too until I get smart enough to pull 'em all apart and analyze the differences myself. If paying a dollar extra for that reassurance every 5000 miles makes me a sucker, so be it.

If you guys really think that there is no difference between a fram filter for example and a filter... take 2 and cut them apart once. I think you'll be suprised.

cars are notorious for having tricky seals where the oil filter connects. Only have the trick down pat.

You guys should go with a canton mecca, it will save you cash over the life of the car and provide better filtration.

Don't waste your cash on those crap cardboard frams.
