Question Exhaust cam on IX, anybody with good results??

OK,
How many of you guys have put on an exhaust cam on their IX and actually got some dyno results?? what size cam? you felt a difference in performance??
did you degreed the cam? if so, how much?

please share your experience.

Why would you put an exhaust cam when Cosworth and GSC started shipping out mivec cams?

Just be patient until we get some results from independent 3rd parties in a few weeks - I am certain the gains will be more than just slapping on a 280 HKS exhaust cam...

To answer your question - I contacted a few people on the board who slapped on HKS 280 exhaust cams (one with cam gear). They claim to make around 8-10HP (sometimes with more increase in torque). Since the gains are fairly small, it is hard to have convincing evidence of them making power on the dyno.

i have an exhaust cam, yes the exhaust cam does make a little more power, but it lets you rev out and pull another 300rpm which when you shift now puts you back better in the powerband, no one talks about that cause on a dyno youll never see when you shift back to next gear, but at the track the car is faster

Just wait and see if the Cosworth/Works and GSC cams prove themselves.

From what i have seen.. On the IX a 280 ex cam will cause a loss of tq but it picks up peak whp. I know a local that is removing his ex cam cause he lost a lot of tq

If you like losing 80-100tq, then add an exhaust cam.

Um wow, have any graphs showing this? Where does it lose that significant amount of torque?

He doesnt mean you will loose that much, hes reffering to that after an ex cam install the car looses significant amounts of tq.. You gain peak whp but you sacrifice the lost of tq in return... To me it wouldnt be worth loosing alot of tq just to gain 8-10 whp

Also post 59 in that same thread.

I know that TTP wouldnt say it lost torque if they hadnt seen it themselves, but it seems that it is easily tuned away. My 280 definitely feels better than the stock 256. One of these days this winter I will make it to the dyno and have some proof to offer.

Unless something is wrong with the local mustang dyno it appears that even at 25psi spikes there is a substantial amount of tq missing. The dyno operator confirmed that it is typical of ex only cammed Evo IX's to see the torque missing.
