Which Intake Mani

Hi Guys

Im pretty new to posting on here but ive been looking around the site for a year or so now.

I love the way in which you guys in the US tune your Evos so differently to the UK owners I'd call it 'on the edge'

Any way, ive been looking around for an uprated intake manifold for a while now and am just looking for opinions on whats good and whats not.

Im cant really afford the likes of HKS or Jun, but am interest in AMS, Magnus or the like, also has any one had any experience with the EBAY Cheap ones as a friend of mine has just made 623BHP with one of these and a standard throttle body

Thanks in advance for any feed back, recommendations or experiences.

Cheers Richie

Yeah ive also heard alot of good things about the AMS product.

Just wondering if anyone has done any back to back testing yet.

Its like the cheap ebay O2 housings that everyone thought were just as good if not better than the more expensive items, im just wondering if anyone can recommend a cheaper alternative rather than pay £700 pounds !!!!

I say make your own go to your local fab work guy that makes car parts. It would cost you cheaper then buying a ams one. If he knows what he is doing he can make you one that will flow just as great or better then any other in the market.

If not just get a ams

Good luck with your build

I like my AMS and i really like the hks unit so since the hks is priced high i'd say go with the AMS!

Magnus started the SMIM intake for DSMs and for EVOs, and continues to make extremely high quality and high performing sheet metal manifolds. AMS also makes a nice manifold. You said you can't afford either. The stock intake manifold responds well to porting and polishing, and if you look at Buschur's setups, flows sufficient air for 550+ HP and 10s in the quarter mile. If you need more than that, you may have to save up for a Magnus

I said i cant afford the HKS or Jun, i could stretch to the AMS or Magnus but thought i'd ask for info on any one thats tried other intakes.

I would be looking at paying 700 to 800 pound roughly 1300- 1500 dollars for these items back in the UK, thats without bigger throttle bodies.
I brought a Full-Race GT35r turbo kit for around 5700 dollars (aprox 3000 pounds)
Now for what you get with that its an absolute bargain in the UK, whereas in the US Full-Race is said to be expensive, so you see the dilema i have is that it costs so much bloody more over here, so if i could get away with a cheaper unit it would be a big bonus
(rant over )

And thanks for your thought guys

I used to run the Magnus and now I run the AMS. Many other racers have made the switch also. I suggest the AMS, power numbers below.

Magnus makes two manifolds for the Evo. The standard one, which flows very well, and a "race" manifold, which feeds all cylinders at the same time, and costs a little more. Both are extremely well made. So is the AMS, of course. Magnus is Canadian, if that makes a difference in import duties or the like.

Buschur has actually run 9's on the stock intake manifold. Porting it or having it extrudehoned would save you a tremendous amount. The stock piece is actually very well engineered. Switching to something like a SMIM has some issues that you might not fully appreciate till you have one. Vaccum sources, factory sensor location, mounting tabs, etc.

If you really have to have one though buy the Magnus. Its the original and the one worth supporting.
