Let's learn from our mistakes and move on.

thanks Hummer

ok heres what happened
it was rainy and there was not traction, i wasnt burning out for ten minutes but half a turn on a wet surface
it took around .5 seconds to burn the power steering, IF IT REALLY IS THE PS MOTOR, i still dont know

it was similar to making a u turn ... thats it
how was it my fault??

Irrespective of what he was doing, I think it is good that he posted on the board that locking the steering full tilt can damage the power steering. Maybe the circumstances of failure are particular and special, but it can happen is the point.

And after all, isn't the point of this board to share knowledge ??

Thats a POS Honda Civic. It has a simple FWD linkup. 6,000rpm clutch drops on an Evo is just plain stupid. Not just for your power steering, but also your tranny, clutch, and every other piece. Honestly, I feel sorry for your Evo.

So what was the outcome of your donuts? YOu may call him a moron, but all of you know what donuts are because everyone's done one at one time or another, so give it a rest.

Anyway, did you look to see if your powerstearing belt blew off? I have seen many accounts on other cars where a slight alighnment problem can slip the stearing belt off, and poof goes your PS.

Anyway hopefully you have taken the time to atleast look under the hood and see what's up.

You would think the Evo could take a little abuse. A few donuts around a parking lot should be a joke for the Evo. It aint made of crystal. If my Evo crapped out on me for just that I would be pissed too.

Plus if the Evo can't handle a few 6k drops then that's just sad.

...I for one think that the evo should be able to sustain full lock for a certain amount of full revs....it's a rally car!!!!

I do not however think it is cool to pull doughnuts in this car to impress others no matter what the surface condition... my $2.00

I have seen numerous "I did this, and now this is broke" posts. Never have I seen "I was just driving down the road, and now this is broke." Cranking the wheel all the way and dropping the clutch at 6100 rpms does not sound smart. I consider my self an aggressive driver, and I don't think I'd do a 6100 clutch drop with the wheel cranked--especially on my Evo when I get it (watin' til '04). If you're going to do that, I think you should expect things not to last too long.

BTW, the "idiot proof" option comment was hilarious. One question though, is that factory installed or done by the dealer?

I would like to think that our Evos can take this punishment.

Its not so much doughnuts as it is a 6,000rpm drop at full lock. Hell, the only AWD car I think a drop like that works is in a Skyline. Those who have experienced it know.
