once again i wanna stress my point "youre an ...."
its an evo, 270hp sports car, not a civic dx
im pretty sure Mitsu and Subaru sti team expected those cars to break 100mp/h BARRIER and and few occassional dognuts, dont you think???

and to all those people teaching me about dropping clutch,
i took a month to properly break in my car, im pretty sure my clutch will be ok after one dognut.
for gods sake i didnt buy an evo to drive like my grandma

You dont have to drive like your Grandma. On the other hand, you should know enough about your car to avoid problems like this. Im glad you learned, but serioulsy, take a driving school up. Its well worth it.

The Evo can definitely take on much more abuse then an ordinary car... I am willing to bet even high end luxury cars can't withstand the "abuse" an Evo can and may take.

And Petem, we're not teaching you how to drop the clutch. Slyfox in the last page ask what dropping the clutch is, and we're just replying to his question. It has nothing to do with your donuts

This is pure educational critisism but you don't "drop" clutches on all wheel drive cars. Ever seen a broken transfer case? If you don't want to then don't "drop" the clutch. You almost have to slightly ride it and then let it go real quick. Again dropping it will wreak havoc on your tcase later. No I don't have an evo but I have a vr4 so don't tell me "you don't even have an evo". This is just educational critisism. Have fun with your new evo. They are great cars! But they aren't indestructable.

EVERYBODY HAS THEIR .02

I Did donuts in mine on dry pavement and smoked the **** out of all four wheels for about 20 seconds. It was about 90 degrees out and the car was just fine. I did it because I just broke the time record for Lime Creek Road Section here in Texas.

Yes, I was showboating, but their were some pretty impressive cars running that day (M3s. Viper, S2000, WRXs, Porsche, etc)
I was stoked!

Now I say "The car is properly broken in"

That is called a "recipe for disaster" for an AWD drivetrain.

You are kidding us, right?

It can? You sound so certain.

Do you have evidence, or is this an opinion?

Please don't use "rally car heritage" as evidence. That's bunk.

I just want to know factually and exactly why the Evo can take so much more abuse than other cars. Most of the parts on the car are parts bin standard, are they not?

I would suggest that the quality and durability of a BMW ("luxury" car) is significantly better than the Evo. Were you aware that the average tolerance for BMW manufacturing is at least 3x that of the average car?

I'd be careful stating opinions as facts. You lose credibility.

its a derived from a fricken rally car and you can't turn to the left for too long??? how long does it take to start sliding in the rain? not very. plus if the car is flying through the woods, or drifting on a track, with two turns lock to lock you bet you are going to hit the lock plenty of times.... that is ****t man, i don't think it is his fault, you gotta have fun with the car, the PSP shoudn't have failed, and the clutch drop has nothing to do with it, people with WRX's do doughnuts in the dirt of in the wet all the time and nothing ever broke on those cars... i think it musta been a bad pump

First, the Evo is not "derived from a rally car."

The rally car is built on an econobox platform, not the other way around.

Think about it.

Some of the modifications to the Lancer econobox that transform it into an Evo may be rally experience inspired, but that's the extent of it.

Same with the WRX.

So you are suggesting that the PSP on the Evo rally versions is the same as the stock evo?

I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that's the case. I'd be willing to bet that the PSP on the Evo is out of the standard parts bin.

Regardless, the PSP shouldn't have broken, whether standard, or "rally derived," so we agree -- just not on why.

wsup all... yea i am one of those people that actually read my owners manual.. only for this car though all the other cars didnt seem important enough for me to read =P...when i came across the power steering part i was kinda upset cuz im sayin... WTF!! that **** b gettin me scared everytime i make a Uey now... im like o **** i cant hold it locked for more than a split second cuz im scared..... anybody know about how many seconds exactly it has to stayed lock for our pump to blow? and yes clutch drops are not the best for our car.... it will basically just sit there and spin all 4 tires for a little bit.... clutch riding is the way to launch our babies.... its 3x harder than just dropping it but hey learn how =) im kinda getting the hang of it
