alternator going out

my alternator is going out. should I replace it with a OEM one. I heard you can have a shop fix it or modify it? with my mods do they not last very long?

You can rebuild an alternator.. I wouldn't

By mods the only thing that routinely destroys an alternator is MASSIVE, GIGANTIC, subwoofer/radio systems which pull crazy amounts of or power...

That or set it on fire...

Its my personal preference to just buy a replacement alternator from an autoparts store which has better or good amperage ratings. Maybe someone else can tell you their experience with rebuilding one since i haven't.

You could put in a 300 amp alternator as long as it fit behind your firewall...

Are you running a high powered stereo or something?

Doesn't make sense for the alternator to die at such low miles without obvious abuse..

What makes you positive you need this replacement part anyways?

What are your symtoms?

You can do a quick check with a multimeter if you have one. Check your battery voltage with the car off. You should see around 12-13 volts. Start up the car the voltage should hover near the 14volt mark.

If you have 14 volts your alternator is fine. You can load test your alternator the same way by turning on accessories like lights.

my mechanic told me it was going out ...not sure how he checked it. On my apexi turbo timer the battery would read 10.9 and 13.9 volts while driving. it would fluctuate up and down...very weird. unless theres something else wrong with the car.

Interesting I didn't know that that you only get 2 years 20K over there.

They tell us here in the US that we get 5 years 60K plus 100K powertrain.

...

That's what they tell us anyways.

Hopefully you get your Evo fixed soon.
