Just wondering? I have a JDM 6 speed in my WRX. Is it a straight swap out, or is it a headache?

USDM EVO needs a posi front end, and 6 forward gears. Really, those are the only drawbacks that I can seel...

You could get the tranny from the RS 6 M/T model, but it still has ACD. I don't know how hard it would be to rig up a US car to use the ACD.

I don't know about the 6 speed, but I know RMR is putting ACD on their US Evo. Coolguy949 said that somewhere. Call them up and ask, they might know.

 

The 5-speed seems like it is perfect for the EVO in my opinion. It could use a limited slip front diff though...

 

wasnt the 5spd the reason the EVO8 was faster than the STi 0-60? and wasnt the lack of the fron diff helpful in their handling test?

The 5 speed in the Evo ISN'T perfect.
A few people have already had problems with them.
Also, the gear ratios are a little bit of a problem if you drag race the car. With mild mods (like my car), you'll run out of gear (4th) in the 1/4 mile.

 

Well, imagine how many times you'll shift gears when you get a six speed... You'll be in 5th gear going down the end of the 1320..!!

 

If I was in 5th gear at the end of the 1/4 ....
