custom IC pipes

Heres the deal. A few of my friends recently took over a shop (basically the owner was tired of dealing with it and turned over control to them... Go figure!) and a guy that works there part time is a full time machinist. He can work with everything from steel to aluminum to even titanium. Hes done many IC pipes for 240sx's with SR20's, turbo KA's, and even RB26DETT swaps. Hes also done a few manifolds. I went up to the shop to get my drivetrain fluids drained and filled and he agreed to prototype some IC pipes (upper and lower) for free for my Evo. They will probably be made out of aluminum unless im willing to offset the cost for Ti piping (which i might do if the aluminum ones come out alright). I was wondering if anyone has custom piping or knows someone who has with their Evo and do ya'll think this is a good idea? Again he is very experienced and ive know him for at least 2 1/2 to 3 years. Appricate all inputs!

every company that works with the evo makes custom IC pipes. you are not accomplishing anything new if thats what you're asking. more then likely, to get good mandrel bent tubes in the right size, its not going to be any cheaper for you to make your own then to just buy a set online. then you need the silicon couplers too which are not cheap. if you actually need a custon set made because aftermarket pipes don't fit your car, then by all means get it done. otherwise, stick with what works.

if you are asking is it worth it to make Ti IC pipes? no.

IF he wants to make pipes for your car and maybe a few others in the area then why not.

If he wants to go public and try to make money from them...no. Tgis is not going to be a good profit center for him or this shop. This part of the market is exploited quite well.

I realize its nothing new. And it will be cheaper for me at least cause if i go with the aluminum im out nothing, but the couplers and thats it. I guess i was asking if Ti was worth it. I realize i wont get any more power gains with Ti over aluminum i was just thinking about weight. I know how light aluminum piping i just wasnt sure how much lighter it might be. I was just thinking it might be a good way to get some good cheap free IC piping and a little power out of it. I was just wondering if there was any MAJOR risk?
