I went looking for some slightly finer sized black mesh material the other day. I want to create a pattern and cut out a mesh overlay for the factory FMIC grill that can be easily installed or removed.

This should minimize the impact to air flow while affording a little better protection. If needed it could also be removed altogether.Someone mentioned you could find the mesh at Home Depot but the only mesh I could find was really heavy duty, and not long enough to do the job.

I did find some black mesh on the net, and may just order some if I can't find it locally. I have experience a fair amount of fin damage, and it is not easy to fix especially if the fins are mashed flat!

If you want to straighten out the bent fins on your intercooler, buy a fin rake! It's a tool the old school car restoring guys use to restore old rads...

I haven't checked the distance between each fin, but the tool at this link should be ok.

Actually if you want a strong screening material.. Go to home depot and get window screen material.. It has VERY LITTLE restriction.. Its aluminum and looks good natural, but will take an epoxy based paint well, which means you can paint it black (and/or stencil anything you want on there) you can get "Piano wire" which is heavy steel or copper wire, and an inexpensive bender to create a frame to hold it in, then ziptie the frame wherever is convenient.. you can then remove it to race, and put it back in for daily driving.. plus it looks kinda trick if your installation is neat.
