Cosworth IX cams in. No Tune = No Fun :(

lol. I got my Cosworth cams in yesterday along with the ti. valve springs and retainers. The idle on them at first was a little rough. They would idle at like 600-500 and then sometimes dip below and try to die. But now it seems like the ecu adapted to the cams and I'm idling around 700-800 now. I tried turning all my accessories on and the car did'nt die. haha. I've been very careful driving my car around, trying not to boost. Sooo. Just waiting on a retune from someone. Whoever can. lol. Can't wait to let it rip and see what these cams can do.

Get that stuff tuned and post up some results / impressions. Not sure if you have a before tune and dynograph?

I just got retuned by works today. First impressions, a slight loss in throttle response... it's wet out so I have'nt really gotten a chance to floor it, I did a 2nd gear pull. I'll write up an impression later on.

Looking forward to it. Hopefully some graphs too! Include a complete mod before/after list to save some time if ya could.

Only mods I have right now are: drop in filter, downpipe, testpipe, exhaust, o2 housing, LICP, walbro 255, 720cc injectors, cosworth cams, ti valve springs, ti retainers, origionally a flash from vishnu, but now a flash from works.

ok.. my impressions... I just came home and smashed on a long straight road. I must say... I floored it earlier today after the tune in 2nd gear and i noticed a loss in torque, decreased throttle response, and just felt the same or slower than my car was before the cams.... Anyways. About 10 min ago, I did another pull from 1st-5th gear. I must say... GOOD LORD!!! lol. 1st and 2nd gear felt about the same, but i was actually surprised to see how hard 3rd and 4th gear pulled as I went all the way to 8k rpm and it kept pulling. It was definately a very nice experience to say the least. I noticed quite a nice difference in top end from before. I'm very excited

I think the car feels more sluggish off boost with cosi cams and stronger on boost. This makes itself most felt in first gear puling from a stop (no launch) or stepping on it right after the clutch is engaged. 1k-3k rpm is noticably slower, but once you are on boost the car is faster.

On higher gears, you are already in the power band where cams make their power (4k+rpm), so the car feels much faster. You just have to get going and keep gear changes within the power band where cams make power...

I'd have to say, the works tune feels pretty good. I know alot of people say they suck and all, but their tune with the cams feels pretty good. Daily driving wise, it does feel noticibly slower, but once you get 4k rpm+ it feels great. I honestly dont know if you switch to an MBC so I'll still have all that top end, because boost will taper. As of now, I'm lovin how it feels. It was a nice little rush pulling up to 8k. The best part is knowing that everything under my hood still looks completely stock. Now to try out that FP Green turbo

Only bad thing I have to say about everything is that now, for daily driving, the low end is slower and my car is jerkier now. I noticed when I go in boost and let off part throttle, but stay in boost, my whole motor stutters (feels like evos with the GFB bov's). It used to do it before, but not as often as now.

I dont know if this is good or bad, your turbo dosnt kick in until 4k now? or am I reading something wrong? Im actually planning on going the same route as you I have all the same mods except cams and wont be getting them until the new accessport comes out so hopefully there's more info on these and the gsc cams by then! thanx for the review though!

It's not that the turbo does'nt kick in till 4k, it's just you dont get that massive pull until about 4k.

mine starts pulling on 3k rpm or lower once you are on 2nd gear. I put the car on dyno before after and peak torque was actually 150 rpm LOWER than before figures. the torque curves look very similar though - it is slightly higher with cams and has less of a taper after 5.5k RPM.

the car feels even more like a turbo car with the cams as you make slightly less power before boost comes on and measurably more once boost kicks in. the difference in the change of power delivery is more noticable in first gear as boost comes on late...
