Does anybody here use ACT HDG6 (Sprung 6 puck single disc cerametallic) in his evo? This is the clutch that TTP recommended to me. TTP said that this clutch can handle more torque than the HDSS, has no lockout issue, and is cheaper than the HDSS. Can anybody chime in? I've searched and could only find 2 threads regarding this clutch. ACTman, your thoughts please?!

I'm sure its a good clutch, but many 6 pucks grab really hard. Sprung hub will make it better, but it definitely reduces the pleasure of a daily driver.

hope you don't drive in traffic and have plans to upgrade stock driveline parts if you ever launch it..

I would go with the XT-SS

Thanks for your response I've driven my friend's evo with the exedy twin SD in it and I like it a lot. Do you think 6 puck-sprung hub clutch has the same characteristics/feel as a twin disc clutch?

how much power are you putting down? If you are putting down 375 or under, just go with the ACT HD and the organic disk, especially if you are running it on a DD. XT with the organic disk if you are over 375.

You've driven one before? Is it that bad?

The grip and holding power will be very similar to a twin disk, however your left leg might be getting quite a workout

The HDSS doesnt have lockout. I have it and have shifted at 8000 and Ive never had a problem once.

I've read so many stories regarding the lockout issue, one said it's an install error, the other one said the pedal needs to be adjusted, etc.... So, i came to a conclusion that this issue does exist and I don't want to have that issue. I could buy the twin discs but why spend that much if I could get the same result (yes, i'm a stingy mtf asian)

It sounds like you are getting responses that run the whole spectrum. The spring center puck disc is a very popular seller for some cars, but not so much for the EVO yet. The puck will require less travel to operate (no cushioning between the linings) which means less requirement for adjustment and ultimately less chance of lockout. Either one (solid or spring) tends to chatter, especially upon takeoff. Some say it's not bad at all and others will hate it. The springs will give some cushioning on the gear changes and less gear noise (such as decel noise), but the tradeoff is the heavier weight of the disc which does make your syncros work harder than the solid disc would. PM for more information.

The only time someone will experience "lockout" is when the pressure plate cannot disengage its connection with the clutch disk to allow the transmission to shift. This usually indicates:

1.) A need of clutch pedal adjustment
2.) A need of flywheel re-surfacing (depending on the design of the clutch, a non OEM step height might be needed to ensure proper disengagement of the aftermarket clutch. Check with the manufacture of the clutch to ensure the proper step height is used). The flywheel step height is often overlooked in clutch installs and is responsible for many bizarre clutch problems.
3.) A improper clutch installation

Yeah I read them too. I still got the clutch and Im more than happy with it. Pedal pressure is only slightly more than stock and it feels great. Car shifts same if not smoother than stock! Well GL with youre decision.
