Better best 1/4 mile time!!!!
Better best 1/4 mile time!!!!
World Series Import race thing at Atco Raceway in NJ today.
I was the only Evo there.
Atco kinda sucks, because you HAVE to drive through the water on the burnout box. This means U either do an AWD burnout, which eats clutch, or launch with the tires a little wet.
1st run, 13.253 @ 107.05mph . Launched at 5800rpms. Jerked forward and fell flat on it's face. 1.864 60 foot. Missed 2nd gear hardcore. Felt like a dick.
2nd run, 13.359 @ 107.73mph . On the launch, the rear tires BLAZED. I've never felt an AWD car blaze tires like this before. I actually heard screeching. Later on, people came up to me telling me the rear tires smoked a LOT on the launch. *** end got a little sideways in 1st gear, but stayed on it. 2.0 60 foot time. Missed 2nd gear AGAIN. Felt like an even bigger dick.
3rd run. Personal best. Launch felt great. Rear tires spun violently again. Car stayed straight. 1.742 60 foot, 12.419 @ 109.52mph . After the run, a lot of people crowded around the car.
4th run. Best MPH and 60 foot run for me. 1.719 60 foot!!! I was like HOLY ****. Again, blazed the rear tires, but stayed straight. 86.64mph 1/8th mile. 12.424 at 109.85mph!!!! With that run, I ended up winning the AWD class. Not a big deal cuz there wasn't a lot of cars. I was psyched. 12.4 at 109+. These cars definitely have potential.
No mods since the last time I was at the track is the Ultimate Racing 3" turbo back exhaust. Last time out, I ran open exhaust (stock downpipe), and that ran 12.53. The exhaust definitely gave me some power upstairs. I was really suprised that with the UR exhaust on, I was able to crack even better ET and MPH than open downpipe before.
.......oh, and yes, the stock clutch is still holding up

Good runs Terry
Tim
For the nonbelievers, here are the timeslips of the 2 12.4 runs (if you look at the slips, yes, I can bracket my *** off. Look how close the numbers are on both runs). I was on the right lane both times, car number 7920. I raced a somewhat stock AWD 1st gen Eclipse. Once on qualifying, the other was heads up. Tim will have videos of my runs on vwsport.com soon. Check it in a day or 2.

The UR exhaust I'm running is the 3" system with the 3" test pipe. Not loud at all, if you're worried about that. I chose it because the bends were smooth, and it clears everything (doesn't rub any parts of the car, and allows the stock lower tie bars (both) to remain in place). Also, even with a test pipe, they have a way to keep the check engine light from coming on for 2nd O2.
atco sucks hard core man you should get to english town instead
dont you hate that about the burnouts
first time i went there im looking and thinkin "how the hell do i get around the water?"
tracks sucks launches there suck and i hear the track has a slight incline on it?

I don't think Atco has an incline or anything, but the track is definitley wavy. If you've raced there before (recently), you'll know what I'm talking about. The track is flat with respect to elevation at the starting point to the end (not an uphill or downhill), but as you're going down the track, you'll notice that the pavement is uneven. You WILL feel the car jiggle up and down a tiny bit. I thought it was me, but everybody says it. Saw a few cars not driving too straight. A few cars lost control yesterday (an ole skool rotary thing got loose in the left lane at the 1/8th mile point; *** end went left and right, left and right, 8 times, then did a 180. The 11 second Civic in the right lane he raced just stopped. The crowd got up on it's feet when the spinning car stopped. Everyone was surpised he didn't smack the guardrails). My friend's Supra got loose on the track too. He thought he was gonna die.
Anyway, Atco isn't the drag strip in the world, but I was driving an AWD car. The waves didn't throw the car off the straight line too much.
After a clutch, I'm gonna blaze tires right through the water in the burnout box. Thought about a few times yesterday, but didn't do it. Stock clutch would have cooked and probably leave me stranded there.
I haven't tuned the car yet with the exhaust. Still running the same SAFC maps as the ones I got from tuning last time, with stock exhaust/2.5" test pipe. Will dyno again soon. Not sure how soon, but soon
