catback vs. tbe

Hey fellas, I searched for this, but got every thread ever posted, but no help. I have a day or 2 to decide if I want to go with a catback or tbe. I wanted to stay with catback at first because of inspections, but the mechanics around here are lazy and I doubt if they even check because there is no emissions yet in Pa. Does a TBE give much better numbers than the catback? Also, is there much more engine strain? The car goes in Wednesday so I need to call TT by Monday to make sure they get the parts in. Thanks for any feedback!

You can see the results of a catback system and the results of a catback & downpipe together. A larger O2 housing would have probably made 5-9whp but it wasn't tested with just the downpipe and catback. It was tested later with some other parts.

If your truly in doubt go with a full tbe with a 3" catalytuc converter. IMHO I would rather only pay someone once to bolt on exhaust parts on my car. Considering you also have a 9 I would say it is silly to just get a catback as the difference is truly mostly made by the downpipe and tespipe pieces.

A while back I installed a full 3" TBE on a guys car with a Magnaflow muffler and catco converter and the gains were very good. In fact the added low end torque that was kept because of the back pressure from the converter was an added bonus.

Summary: Get a full TBE.

TBE with a good converter will free up horsepower that is being robbed by the restrictive frontpipe and OEM cat.

They just started emissions in tx and if your car is 98 *i think* or newer they dont hook up a sniffer, they just read your ecu and make sure u r not throwing a code for emissions. All u have to do is make a 2 dollar 02 sensor adapter out of anti foulers *there is a write up on evom for this* Hope this helps.

If they r not doing emissions testing in your state i wouldnt worrie though. If u get a full TB and then your state starts doing emissions w/ sniffer for an new cars, then just put back in the stock catback and stock catalitic converter. It only takes a second

I will not hide my newbie-ness, but.....

Test pipe is the pipe that replaces the cat?

Down pipe is the pipe from the turbo to the test pipe?

All comes with TBE package?

2 kinds of catalitic replacement
1) a "test pipe" (off road pipe) is a replacement for the catalitic converter, its a straight pipe to flow more air nothing more.
2) is a "High flow cat" There is 2 kinds of "high flow cats"
-Most commonly these r test pipes with a resonator built in, so it kinda looks like a cat and also helps keep noise down, but does not help for emissions.
-There is also Real "high flow cats" these r usually very expensive (500+ from what i seen)
These r true high flow cats, meaning they flow more air, helps for emissions, and resonates to keep noise down. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help guys. i am learning on the fly here, lol. I will go with the full TBE. I don't want it insanely loud, but I will give up a little noice for the performance.
