O5 transfercase in an 03?

Hey guys, did a bunch of searches on here to find out that inevitably, the transfercases fail on the Evo's. A lot of people have experienced failures anywhere from 2000 miles to 30000 miles and it seems that there is a shimming problem from the factory.

My car is an 03 with 8057miles currently on the OD. The car has literally seen one 6000rpm launch and that is it and I have a very distinct whining sound coming from the front of the car. Unfortunately I am not under warrenty anymore but have located an 05 tcase locally for sale. so my question is

Will an 05 tcase fit and work in an 03 Evo? Thanks!

I am not an expert. I don't think that it will fit. I have the same transfer case problem with only 12,000 miles. I bought a 03 transfer case and it did not fit my 05 evo. I did not fit because my evo has ACD and 03 do not. I saw the difference and the 05 has an extra part on the side.

Hey, thanks a lot man for the quick post. That sucks to hear you too are afflicted. It is really foreign to me since I came from the DSM side where tcases were tuff with two ff's (as long as you kept fluid in 'em).

For these to blow this early is a poor sign of workmanship and should be addressed in a recall by the company, especially with their history of legal battles over tcase failures.

It's a damn shame and Im quite pissed since my 03 is no longer under warrenty and I get to foot the bill!

Strange I know of only one Evo in my area that has had to have the transfer case replaced and it was dut to a number he coudn't even count of launches. And many of the local guys go to the strip and many have turbo kits. Hell I think mine is the weakest with 300whp and 318 tq every one else is way higher

Well, I am going to call Mitsu tomorrow and see what kind of response I get. I doubt that it will be anything positive, so I will probably be talking to my good friend with an Esq at the end of his name to see if there is any legal recourse since this is not an uncommon, and very dangerous failure.

Im sure with enough people, even the threat of a class action suit will scare mitsu into starting a recall. I may start a poll to see just how many people this has happened to.
