IX BOV Mod for Higher Boost

Found this awhile ago and since I was installing alky soon and will supposedly reach behond the limits of the 25psi or so that the stock ix bov is willing to hold, I thought it was time to post up this how-to. Basically converts the BOV to a VTA, but can easily be converted back to a BOV by threading a vacuum line over the new hole on the side.

http://forums.*******.com/showthread.php?t=2574

Does this mod actually work? On a side note, how effective is crushing the ix bov?

I'd be very hesitant to do something like that to mine.

Could you elaborate as to why? Mechanically it makes sense.

it you want it to VTA then just get a GM MAF translator and sell the stock bov and buy one that is meant for higher boost.

A much better solution can be found on this page. Look for the "Leak Stop Kit" under BOV-misc-tools

This is not a blowoff mod, this is a "Stopleak" mod...

The port is designed to allow extra pressure to pressurize the bottom of the diaphragm to assist the vacuum side of the DV to override spring pressure..

by removing the signal, the boost pressure from the upper intake pipe doesn't act against the diaphragm and raises the boost pressure it will hold.

Unfortunately this will also lead to additional part throttle fluttering.

^^ That's the idea behind the Dejon part. The signal is retained but controlled, virtually eliminates flutter especially at lower boost levels but holds boost at much higher levels than stock.

Thanks guys for the info! MalibuJack was referring to the mod in my op I believe which is the same as the dejon mod minus the "15psi boost reverting solenoid." But hey, for free we could deal with a little bit of fluttering. You make the choice .

cdfireman1, could you provide us a review of your experiences with the product? It seems for the price of this, you can just sell your ix bov and put the extra funds in to buy a new bov that will hold higher boost to begin with.

The idea of the port going to the under side of the diaphragm is to allow the valve to open very quickly. By just plugging the port you affect the drivability built into it by Mitsu engineers. The Dejon Tools Leak Stop tool allows this port to still work but under pressure over 15 psi it is closed and there is no leak of boost. With the Dejon installed the car drives like a NA until you kick her in the ***.
