AMS 2.3 & GT35r on my IX, I need some advice
Listed below is everything that's going in the car right now, I just wanted to ask everyone who's built an Evo like this if there's anything you'd do differently. I just have this bad feeling I'm missing something. My main concerns are the fuel system and ignition.
At what level do you think I'll need to address these problems? I've considered buying a HKS Twin Power Dli and Buschur's modified fuel pump, but I don't want to spend any more money at this point unless I have to. I plan on running ~35psi on race gas, and 20psi on pump. I should have the car back in Jan, so I wanted to address any problems now to avoid any delays. Thanks in advance, John
update: Thanks for everone advice, I've made several changes as a result
AMS 2.3 short block (upgrades: Oliver rods, copper o-rings, balance shaft eliminator kit)
AMS Race Head
GT35R with TT manifold
HKS V-pro 3.24
Buschur Dual High output pumps
1000cc injectors
GSC S2 cams
Exedy Twin Carbon clutch (high clamp load pressure plate)
Buschur Deluxe Intercooler W/ piping
Greddy Ti exhaust
Forge adjustable BOV
Greddy Profec-b
HKS DLI
PLX R-500 O2/egt sensor

I thought about that, but I was going to wait untill they released the S3 cams. I've had nothing but great experience with GSC in the past. I've had the cams a while now, but I do plan on upgrading them in the future. That is a good point though, thanks. I've never felt like the cams were a good investment.

from my understanding... the walbro is good up to 30ish psi on a 35r... i think you might run a little lean after that.... after 600whp...
anyone confirm this?
and brakes.....? with power like that you need to stop...
cheers! get a ticket!!!!! better not be 10 over.... post a 50 over make us proud lol

I hear you about the brakes, that should be interesting. I actually plan on doing alot of HPDE with this car so once I toast the stockers, I'll have to do something soon I'm sure. This summer I plan on finishing the car and taking care of the brakes and suspension, and hopefully by then I'll be able to afford to do it right.

No, most of this is way above my skill level. The work is being done by Jotech here in Dallas. The shop has a very good reputation, but I don't think they've taken an evo this far before. Kenny Tran, the owner is doing alot of the work himself which makes me feel alot better about it though.

Car should be a monster when your all done, nice job so far. I agree with the posts about the single Walbro not being enough. You could get the HO one from Buschur, or maybe add a second Walbro to the one you have. That would be more than enough. The stock ignition is good to about 550whp or so, with the mods you have you should be making more than that, the HKS would be a good idea as well.

It's not twice as much it's 50% more, it would be enough for you, but from a price standpoint, you could get a regular Walbro for less and in the end have a lot more room to grow if you ever feel the need. Either one will work, I guess it depends on how far you plan on taking you car.
I hope that i can land a nice job when i get out of college and really start getting more into racing and have a full out race cars. You rich guys give me something to shoot for thats why i look at these crazy posts about making 600+ hp and dropping 30 grand into an already amzing car.

I would suggest adding an AEM to the car. that is going to be a very useful tool and almost necessary at your cars level. btw they are now available for the IX.
Now as far as cam selection goes for this thing you have a choice to make. 1 go with the S2 grind which should work nicely. 40-50whp increase over stock with your setup.
The S3 idea has changed. We are now going to do something way different than any other cam manufacture. Lets just say there is about to be a new Horse Power Record in the EVO world more to come on this very very soon....
