evo 9 CLUTCH problems!!!
evo 9 CLUTCH problems!!!
so I've had my evo 9 for about 2 months (4,561 miles ) and it has been a blast. i did the proper break in period and whatnot . But today i was leaving the mall and notice my shifter was acting very strange. i have a 5-speed and when i would go from neutral to 1st i gear i hear a creek sound , its not like grinding but more of a plastic bending sound. Also when i go from 1st to 2nd , it dosent feel like it 100% grabs and it use to, also when i go from 2nd to 3rd it doesn't fully grab. Before when id go through the gears, it would go in smoothly and kind of make a thump noise insuring me that im in gear. As of today it just goes in halfass and makes a plastic squeeking noise; this a known issue? Also i just put on my greddy ti and tanabe (2.75) downpipe .. could those parts affect the clutch.. one more thing.. if i do take it in to the the dealer , is the dealer gonna give me the run around about my catback and downpipe (i am using the stock cat still ) thanks.
Dude, you're fine. You don't need to go back to stock if all you have is a dp & cat back. What you should do is call the tech department and speak to one of the reps. Describe the problem. Without admitting to any mods, ask him if having any exhaust mods would cause something like that. Then find out if you should just bring it in.
Put it back to stock!!!!! My friend is a MItsu tech and I work for the same owner as the Mitsu dealer and they told me if its major..(drivetrain..etc) they cannot order parts without a rep coming by. If he sees anything you are flagged! The sevice mngr also said there is no way that Mitsu would ever warranty a clutch on Evos no matter what!!!!
Not saying this to be law thats where I got it from and who

Just guessing here... Isn't part of the shift lever cage plastic? Just wondering if you broke something in there. That would definitely be cool because it'd be cheap and easy to fix for your dealer.

Your Loosing Your Clutch
You don't have to go back to stock, the dealer has to prove that the down pipe and exhaust directly contributed to your drivetrain problems. WHich is highly unlikely. I had the same problem at 6402 miles and lost my clutch completely. The clutch in the evo is crap. I went and got my clutch replaced under a good faith agreement for free. You go to your deal and dont take any crap from them you spent plenty of money on that car and the clutch goes after 4K. Man up and go handle yo buisness.
OK HELLO PEOPLE to the guy whos friend is a Rep Sorrry but your wrong. my friend has an evo 8 with lots of bolt on mods his tranny is crapping out in 5th they hook the evo into the computer to see whats going on with it. IF YOU DIDNT KNOW THAT THE EVO HAS A LITTLE BLACK BOX WHICH RECORDS EVERYTHING. so if you been doing clutch drops your screwed if you havent dont that your fine. My clutch on the other hand because my engine is totally modded was null and void of warrenty.
A good point was made call first and ask cause each dealer is different but like i said they will hook your car up to a US linked computer system and the black box will tell them all you have done what speed you were going and such

There is a very simple solution to this. Just call your local dealer describe the problem to them and see what he says.
If a visit ti the dealer is warranted you should have no problems with regards to your warranty. In order for them t deny a warranty claim they have to show that the TBE caused the oroblem, which is VERY unlikely.
Simply out you just have to stand strong and just us your common sense if they give some crap about denying the claim.
I'd agree about the shifter base, it is plastic so you could check that. Does the shifter move freely in neutral?
