Scary Noise Coming From????

Today I was driving on my way home and out of nowhere, my car starts making this crazy a$$ noise. The best way to describe it, it sounds like if you were to stick something in a house fan with it on high. It does it when I accelerate and the more gas I give it the louder it gets. The noise happens in any gear and you can hear even at a stop if you listens close enough. At a stop it sounds like someone knocking on metal but very quietly. Before you tell me to search, I have! A Lot! I can't find anything on such a noise and so now I'm asking for help. Money is limited, the car is modded, I'm good friends with the owner of the dealership but if mits doesn't want to warranty it, my friend can't help. PLEASE HELP, ANY THOUGHTS ARE GOOD!!

Check the oil, maybe it's low, and has starved the bearings of oil. I described TORNADO siren as Transfercase problem, and House fan or radiator fan rubbing, as a SPUN ROD BEARING. I have had BOTH problems! Sorry bro, but I think this is what happened, but I hope not!!

ok I took it for a quick ride and i noticed it sounds like driving down a dirt road and gravel hitting underneath but only in the front. still ticks when i give it gas but really nothing if i'm coasting. i'm thinking my trans might be making the noise. i can't heard anything with the hood open but under i can hear a little ticking coming from around the trans. i really cant fit under the car so i'm guessing thats where is at. i havn't lost any power but i'm to scared to really test it. if it was the trans i heard, what do you think it could be?

sounds like rod knock.

DONT DRIVE YOUR CAR!

It could also be a spun bearing but I wouldn't think a spun bearing would happen just like that and be that severe. Usually with a spun bearing you'll hear a faint noise like a louder lifter tick before anything but it will soon proceed into rodknock.

just read your post..

i got $5 on a spun rodbearing.

don't drive your car dude it'll get worse. Your looking at replacing the shortblock or building your current one. If it is a spun bearing. If you continume to drive your car and let it get worse you will throw a rod though you block and have to buy a complete new block.

+1! If you keep driving it, and it is the spun rod bearing, you are CIRCULATING the copper shavings throughout your motor( What the bearings have in them), and you might need to add a cylinder head to your list. STAY OUT OF THE CAR, until you are CERTAIN it is NOT the spun rod bearing! You just may throw a rod out the side of your block if you do, THEN, you will need to pay a CORE charge for a new short block. You will hear it low by the tranny, as the rod bolts are low.

If you rev the car from the engine bay, and it gets louder, it can't be the tranny, try it-or not.

You spin the rodbearing first, and that leads to the rod-knock, so you are correct on both points.

You need to look for a "shortblock" on here. They are here, not too expensive. I paid $3300 for an AMS shortblock-NEW. It depends on what you want. I was Pissed when I did that also,no fun.

Your going to need to turn your crank or buy a new one if the damage is bad. I would just go ahead and get a new crank if i were you though.

Heres your options

You can get a new shortblock from SBR for 2500 this is stock. And possibly sell your block for around 1,000.

Or you can get a BR,AMS,TT,SBR stroker kit and have it built by a local machine shop.

Or you could just order a shortblock from AMS SBR or bushcur.

I bought SBR's stage 2 stroker kit. Manley I beams, Wiseco Pistons, 4g64 crank, acl main and rod bearings and thrust washers and their BS removal kit. Totalled under 1900 :-D and yes a i got a new crank. Had it built by a loacl machine shop which ended up costing me 650 for everything block related.. had it bored .020 over and clearanced for the rods. Then i also had the head cleaned and mildy ported. Replaced oilpump, waterpump and oil cooler.

This was all over a spun bearing.
