mine goes in no problem.But with other stick cars i,ve had i find going into 2nd then reverse takes care of it.

When mine is cold in the morning it won't go in. I put it into 3rd then it goes into reverse with no problem...

The reverse gear in the EVO 5 speed has a double synchronizer on Reverse, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into Reverse AS LONG AS:

Your clutch in properly adjusted
You are pushing the clutch all the way down before you shift into the gear
Your oil is not cold & thick like molasses
You didn't install that stupid short throw shifter. Mitsubishi spent much time developing the OEM shifter and feels that using anything else is a step in the wrong direction...
You didn't grind Reverse when you really meant to grab Reverse
You didn't knock the engagement teeth down from repeatively trying to stuff it into gear when the transmission didn't want to go into that gear.
