Cosworth has a M1 and M2 grind.

M1 can use the stock valve train and are a very nice cam.

M2 needs upgraded valvetrain and makes great power.

We have had a couple of them come through here and they are my favorite cam for the evo.

FYI Cosworth had the Evo 8 cams out long before the 9 cams were even thought about.

Mase & Ben-
What exactly are the details with the Cosworth cams and the (rumored?) need to degree them/lobe centers being off? Was this issue just with the IX cams?

(If you know...) How is the driveability/idle quality with a flash rather than a piggyback/standalone?

I'm quite interested in the M1 cams for my VIII but don't want to get in over my head if they are quirky or will be a pain to have tuned. Cosworth has such a great rep I can't imagine them putting an inferior product on the market but there have been lots of rumors that I would like to either confirm or put to bed.

Thanks for any info,
CoachG

There was one batch that were off here is a copy of the offical release from cosworth

We have experienced a manufacturing problem with our last batch of Mitsubishi Evo IX camshafts. Part number KK3921.

Some of the exhaust cams from the production run (batch 1212- marked on the cam) may have the exhaust cam angle slot, machined incorrectly.

This slot is used to locate the cam angle trigger and because it is off by approx. 1mm, the trigger is not easily installed.

While some customers have managed to file the slot and install the trigger or force the trigger in place, we cannot recommend this.

You would have received these cams from mid December onward (Batch 1212).

If you have these cams in stock, please contact us by EMAIL. We will correct the problem by recalling the exhaust cams via UPS call tag and repairing them.

Additionally, if you have redistributed the cams, please contact your customers.

Note: Only the exhaust cam from batch 1212 is affected.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
Also see attached picture of the cam.

This is just IX cams so you do not need to work about the 8 cams.

Idle quality with them is phenomenal. We installed some here and sent them out to the tuner. With upgraded injectors I was able to tune a smooth idle in 5 minutes in order to get him over to his tuner(we do not do in house dyno tuning).

If you want a smooth stock like idle get the M1 grind they are great. Let me know if you have any questions as we are a authorized cosworth Dealer and Distributor.
