24 psi on stock 8 MR turbo
If you have a manual or electronic boost controller, then turn the boost down to 21-22#. You do have an upgraded IC, however, so you should be able to run a couple pounds more boost than you would through the stock intercooler.
The best way to know whether or not you're detonating is to datalog see whether or not the ECU is pulling ignition timing. Or you can get a telltale device like "KnockLink" to monitor knock.
A lot depends on your flash and the timing and fuel tables, not only the boost level. You should log AFR's and timing as well as EGT's. But as a rule of thumb.. you should be safe at 22# on 93 octane with your intercooler upgrade and given the cold winter weather.
I've run 24# on 91 octane with zero knock retard.with a custom XEDE map, but without the piggyback and just on the stock ECU I have to turn it down to 17#. It depends on the tune and you've gotta datalog or monitor knock and AFR's to really know what's going on..

I was dumb and only put in a TBE and now i spike 24.7 PSI, ??? no problems yet but i don't lay into it alot.
Hey guys im running 24psi on my stock 8 MR turbo with 93 octain. What can the stock 8 MR handle safely? Mods are hbc, hks cat back w/ cat delete, hyperflow intercooler, hks intake, walbro 255, greddy bov. I did search but i mostly found stuff on the 9 turbo or 8's with alky, plus im at work and don't have much time to search.
the most boost on pump gas(91,92,93) is 22psi and beyond 22psi i recommend any racing gas(100 or c16).
It is possible to hurt your motor with knock, which is detonation. This will crack your piston, or pistons in the middle or around the ring land. You could easily cause a hair line crack in the piston untill it decides to let go, then gets wedged inbetween the rod and the block causing the piston through the block.....
lower the boost or buy a meth kit! Or dont listen and need a block soon......

After the tune it was holding at 24 but today it held at 25 and i imediatly let off and pulled over to turn it down. I dont get on the car all that much so im sure i didnt hurt it. I have no rod knock just lifter tick. When I turned it down today I did a couple pulls that spiked at 23 but tapered down a bit to like 19. Right now it spikes at 24 and holds at 23.

On 93 to be safe wouldnt really boost a car over 18psi just really to be safe. Ive seen people be fine at 20 or 21 but in the long run things started to wear out. I would say 18psi with or without tune. Than put some M103 Vp Fuel and boost at 24
.
On a stock turbo, are you kidding me? You can boost way more than 18psi on 93octane. Try 24 spike tapering to 17-18 on an Evo IX w/ 93 octane. This is with a tune, of course.
24 does seem alittle hi though, 21-22 would seem more like it.
