Whats everyones timing advance at 6k-7k

Im gonna hook up my Pocket logger and go for a few runs at lunch....what timing advance should I see close to redline? 20-25 degrees of advance? I was checking it out during traffic yesterday and I was getting 43 degrees of timing advance at 3000rpm in third... isnt that kind of high??? If I get time, i will post my graph later!

Are you at WOT? Because that's way too high. Should be between 16-20 under boost WOT. I'm assuming the 43 readout at 3000rpm was at part throttle?

I'm glad that people are starting to ask these kinds of questions!

When you are not at wide open throttle, the ECU will increase timing advance to help reduce fuel consumption. Ever hear of an older car that had a "vacuum advance?" Same thing.

With pump gas and an unaltered MAF, stock injectors, and stock fuel settings, I would expect to see between 16 and 18 degrees of advance. At least this is what the stock DSM maps are set at. Remember also that the ECU will tend to increase timing advance as the RPMs increase at WOT. This is because there is actually less time for the air/fuel mixture to burn before TDC as RPMs increase.

Yes 43 degrees advance was at Part throttle!!

There was too much traffic to do any freeway runs at lunch, so ill have to wait until I get off school tonight (10:30pm).

On my WRX I saw 22-24 degrees advance at WOT 6000-7000rpm. It looked like a normal timing curve, drops to like 10 as soon as you floor it, then gradually climbs back up to 22-24. Then I look for the dips!

Shape - I wish the pocket logger could read knock correction as it could on the 1G dsm's!!!! The 1G's you tune by knock correction and 2G's you tune by timing advance. I plan to do the same with my EVO......

You know there are SOME people that don't get their ECU remapped because they like to tune themselves! =)

I need to take the SAFC off of my old Eclipse and strap it on the EVO! I'll have to do a search for the wiring diagrams...

An EGT shouldnt be necessary for light fuel tuning on the SAFC I would think......???
