15.5 from Mitsu Japan!!

The Background : I got a JDM 9 GSR with the optional MgTi Turbo, blew up after 11Tks, changed to an RX6B Turbo, but with no success in tuning it, changed to a JDM 8MR Turbo, waited.....waited.....waited...... 3 months delay from Mitsu Japan for a "new" turbo their gonna supposingly give as a manufacturer's option.

Got the delivery 2 days ago from Mitsu dealer in Nagoya, Japan. I was too excited and forgot to write down the complete type/number of the turbo or taking a picture of it before installing it, sorry. Don't know about the material either, but I'm sure that it's not the d**m Mg-Ti.

But as far as i remember the only difference to the standard Ti-Al 9 turbo is the bigger turbine housing (and blades).
The blades (on the turbine side) are funny though, it has (uneven) round cuttings on 4 (or so) of it's blades.

The car will be ready tomorrow. But just to make sure that it won't blow up again, are any of you familiar with this turbo? Or which tuner makes 15.5 turbo?

Stupid story : i went on a business trip to japan 3 months ago, and bought a replacement turbine for my friend's 9 GSR which turbo blew just after 3Tks. Went back from japan, gave the replacement part to my friend. Mine blew up the very next day. (i guess due to bad Karma for making fun of him when his blew only after 3000kms, and his was bone stock)

So you went from a IX turbo down to an VIII? As far as I know, the VIII turbos are all the same with the exception of the hotside from 03-04's, even in JDM land. You just let go of 20% of your compressor housing

Sorry for being unclear, this is a BIG TURBO!!

Guys, sorry for being unclear about this

Yes i went back from 9 to 8mr turbo for 3 months because i had to wait for mitsu japan to come up with a 'new' model to replace the MgTi Turbo.

Now the turbo is here, it has a 15.5 on the hotside, which is way bigger than the 12.5 on standard jdm evo 9 MR, even more bigger than the usdm 10.5 turbo.

damn bro...if what you are saying is correct..i better go to the dealer and check..maybe they have them in stock..not that i need the turbo now since my IX is a JDM spec with the mag-ti turbo..but that sounds like a good replacement..

let us know how the car feels after installation.

goodluck

There seems to be a bit of confusion over Mitsu's nomenclature for the newest version of the JDM Evo 9 MR turbo. Sorry guys...there is no 15.5 hotside. It's just that the newest edition of the JDM IX MR turbo is referred to as the 155G as opposed to just.... plain, old 16G.

The new JDM IX MR turbo is: TD05-155G-10.5T

The JDM IX RS/GT & GSR turbo is: TD05HRA-16G6MC-10.5T

All JDM Evolution IX turbos are configured with the 10.5 hotside. Apparently the difference is that the MR turbo has a slightly smaller compressor nozzle diameter, so as to enhance spool-up.

Edit: Sorry I didn't do that link properly.....screwed up again

sparky, what you just posted is quite interesting.

you're saying that the IX turbo has more lag (hence the use of MIVEC to compensate for pre-boost), but the JDM MR turbo is designed for less lag. With that in mind, wouldn't it be better for VIII owners to use the JDM MR turbo instead of the IX turbo?

Let's say I have an VIII (which I do, and an MR at that) - should I get a IX turbo or a JDM MR turbo? What would the pros and cons be for each of them? What are the tradeoffs?
