Exclamation Is my clutch going?

I have about 30k on my car now and here is what I am noticing.

My clutch engages near the top of the pedal and when shifting into gear at 3k or above it makes a whining noise. Also there is some shudder when letting it slip into first.

However, once engaged there is no slippage at high RPMs.. What so you think?

When the clutch started going in my wifes 100k mile celica it was awesome, if the car couldn't handle the torque needed it would slip.

So you could start in 2nd gear, floor it and it would feather the clutch for you allowing for really nice 2nd gear launches.

Damned that car was a hunk of junk.

I used to get shudder sometimes but that was from improper engagement. Your change in engagement/release point kinda puzzles me a bit. But you might be gettin that shudder because you're not used to where it engages now. Are you getting any slipping at all? I really wish I could hear exactly what whining noise you're having. I've had my clutch go out on me, but it was slipping so that's how I knew.

wen my clutch went, it it never made any kinda noises and went into gear fine, the only noticable problem was wen the boost kicked in and between 3-5K rpms my car would jsut rev and the clutch slipped, but then again its something u would obviously notice so..

I think you hit the engagement issue dead on. Next time I am at the stealership I will have them check it out.

Thanks for the help guys! It's not slipping cause I can go WOT in 2nd and it sticks.

to see if it's slipping floor it in 5th gear and if it doen't slip when full boost comes on(3500-4000), it's fine. your engagement point will change as the clutch wears, and if it's not slipping under heavy load like stated, then i think you should just adjust the pedal's engagement point. rule of thumb is engagement starting at least 2-3 inches off the floor. you can tell by raising the car up(all 4 wheels)and slowly letting the pedal out until the wheels begin turning.

How can I adjust the engagement point?

If your RPM goes up and the car's speed doesn't.
That's the sign of the clutch slipping.
