New Clutch
Haha, I actually went to the dealer where that kid got his car (looking at the new Outlander). The salesman said he's in like every other week with his car for service, and he was roasting the crap out of his clutch just pulling out of the lot after he bought it....

Same kind of subject, I have an IX and my clutch started slipping right around 6,000 miles which is kind of weird because all i've been doing for a long time was highway driving. My mods are a Greddy Ti, 3"DP, 3"TP, EBC, K&N Drop in, Tune....for what I have what is a good clutch for my Evo IX? I don't want to go through a new clutch every 6k miles and I drive very conservativly for the most part. What would most of you guys reccomend for me to purchase? I'd like a little comfort room incase i'd like to add any other kinds of modifications. On my old turbo Si i had a Competition Clutch Stage 4 6 puck and it grabbed real well and I was looking at the competition clutch stage 1 for EVOs...how do those compare? What's the most reliable (note not popular) clutch out there for me to use?
Something else about mine was that when I bought it there was 2700 miles on it already. The previous owner glazed the brakes--but everything else seemed okay. I'm just hoping the guy broke in the engine and clutch properly--because he surely didn't do the brakes right.
I was thinking of a Competition Clutch as well--probably the stage 2. AMS recommended the single disc organic as a cheap alternative to the stocker for any HP up to 400.
Ive got the stocker on my '03 at 58500 miles and about 50 launches, I learned how to launch on this for AWD launching, and im going to the track one more time to lauch the beast spraying out of the hole. I will fry this before my ATS Carbonetics twin disk goes in.
I got my car with 2 miles on it so no dealership "Shinnaginnns" took place. Ive got all the bolt ons and meth and my clutch is starting to slip. No launches and broke in proper. Mostly highway and some spirited driving every now and then. I guess it varies from car to car and WHP. I guess the stocker couldnt handle 387WHP...Im looking at the ACT Street.
Stock clutch has handled over 400wtq. so it shouldn't slip unless you have a clutch with a factory defect, but mine is starting to slip @ 18,500 with over 330wtq. and 55 launches, not bad for the stocker.
mines gone at 17.5 exedy single on the way. BTW i was ****ing PISSED when mine went out. I thought for sure there would be no way Mitsu would put a weak *** clutch in an EVO. guess i was wrong
FP3052,
Back to your original question. I've heard from several Highly respected people, like Robert Fuller of ROBISPEC, that the Carbonetics(ATS) twin carbon is an excellent clutch for the street & road racing. I just recently ordered the twin carbon myself, as my clutch started slipping just recently @ 21000 miles, @ $2500 installed, it better be darn good, as I just upgraded my suspension to the KW Clubsports for about the same price! I decided to go with one of the best, cause I'm getting ready to install the BR 20G9LT next and I don't want to mess with the clutch again.
