Which intake manifold for road racing

which manifold is recommended for road racing? i know that some just add serious lag and are more for drag racing- i hope i can get a few vendors or some road racers on here and let me know why they would choose what they choose.

here are a few options that i have found

buschur ported intake manifold
ams vsr
full race/hypertune
magnus

Are you referring to a car that is majorly built with a big turbo and stroker motor or what? I haven't seen a single discussion about what intake manifold to use for road racing in our motorsports forum (should probably ask in there). That doesn't mean there isn't a best one, but it is one of the last mods you'd even think about in terms of road racing.

Are you guys just answering in general with your favorite intake manifold, or do you have experience with why these choices are best for road racing? I'm confused.

Im not famailar with the other manifolds, but i know the full race manifold is full cnc alunmiunum and has velocity stacks built into it.

Velocity stacks improve low/mid range.

The stock or ported stock manifold is your best bet.

Road race cars use a wider powerband than drag race cars. A manifold that emphasizes high rpm power almost always does so at the expense of midrange torque and midrange transient boost and spool characteristics. This matters not to a drag race car, but to a car that will be accelerating out of corners and requires a broader powerband, it does.

this is actually my last mod, i am still comtemplating to do it or not. depending on what the pros and cons are.
but yes i am referring to a bigger turbo and a 2.2l motor w/cams and all the above-

exactly my question, are they answering in terms of cool factor or what is better, because my intention for this thread is which and why.
so if somebody has an opinion please tell me your experiences.

doesn't the ams vsr have velocity stacks built in? if so, i heard the vsr gives a noticeable amount of lag. correct me if i am wrong.

so your opionion would be the buschur ported out of the my choices? that is actually what i was thinking. what are the pros of going with a ported over just keeping it stock? in your opinion is it worth it?

It would be extremely helpful in all threads if guys that had NO experience with something just kept quiet.

Saying you are going to buy something or suggesting you have something just for the hell of does no good.

I have performed quite a bit of intake manifold testing. AMS has performed more I am sure.

I have NOT tested AMS's or Full Race's (didn't even know they made one actually) back to back to our ported stock one.

I did however test the stock intake, extrude honed intake, our hand ported intake, stock throttle body and our 65 mm modified stock throttle body and one other sheet metal intake manifold.

To finally get to the point. Back to back dyno tests on NUMEROUS cars have left us running ONE combination.

My RS, my brothers car, out Time Attack car, Jarrod's car etc., etc., ALL run our hand ported stock intake with our 65 mm throttle body. Let me remind you my RS ran 9.97 at 142, my brother car ran 10.1 at 144 mph and Jarrods with our 3065 has run 11.5 at 131 (Jarrod's an amatuer driver I just put someone in my car that CAN drive and call it a day! haha

I am actually doing more intake manifold testing this coming week. Just got my RS back to the shop, as you can see from our fuel system post.

My recommendation for now atleast is ported stock and the 65 mm. Both pieces are only $375 with your exchange.

One more thing. We are running the HKS Kansai intake on our black car and Al's car. Very expensive. The majority of the other high HP cars that want to run an aftermarket intake manifold we have bought and used AMS's. Very nice high quality piece. As for actual dyno testing though, we have not done any back to back with theirs VS our stock modified stuff. Martin has assured me there is power increase and I have grown to trust him.

I like using as many stock parts as I can. You pop the hood of my car and there is no way in hell you are going to think it makes 600 whp and run's 9's
