The "Evo Thump" on the Shift

Yes I have searched. I could not find the part number for the upgraded bushings. I also have not read anything that said if the mounts were good for the car or not. Anyone got hard facts?

Thanks!

Huh? Part number for upgraded bushings? Mounts? Do you mean motor mounts? You don't need a part number to find upgraded bushings from vendors, and the front motor mount is one of the best mods on the Evo, but it has nothing to do with the loud thump in the rear.

The loud thump in the rear is the driveshaft hitting the carrier bearing.

Ok, but I wouldn't think you need a part number to find the bushing set. You need to find the vendor. It's kinda weird that you're trying so hard to remove it by changing the bushing as opposed to changing your shifting habits.

One of the theories is that the thump is your rear diff bushings being defeated and jarring against the chassis, another is the driveshaft hitting the carrier bearing, and I don't think anyone has posted with a "sure-fire" fix testimony, although it may be as simple as asking.

Who's done the USB or Energy Suspension bushing upgrade and cured the "Evo thump?"

Let's hear about it!

The "Evo Thump" and "Cobra Thump" and the "M3 Thump" and the "just about anything with a driveshaft and rear end thump" is caused mainly by bad shifting. With practice you can make it go away without spending a dime.

W,
I read all the threads about driving habbits and how if you shift softer it wont happen. I only get the tump if im racing. I was just wondering if thier was some type of fix for the problem. And if the bushings help, I want to get a set. Do you get the thump when you drag race?

San,
I think im gonna change the thread title!

Thanks for the input fellas!

i would have to agree. When I first started driving mine, I had the same problem, I didn't even think about spending money on fixing the car but rather automatically assumed the need to fix my shifting habits. I think it was accentuated with me as well, coming from a much lower powered Honda. With some smother shifting habits, the back lash is not an issue.

The only time I've experienced the Thump, is when I don't get on the Gas fast enough, before releasing the Clutch. If I'm on the gas a split second before disengaging the Clutch, it's smooth every time.

Not sure if it's gonna break anything. But I "Thumped" at for the last 60K miles and my TC, driveshaft, rear diff are all still working just fine. It came to the point where during racing and I don't get the hammering THUMP in the back it doesn't feel right :}
Then again I run the Exedy Twin HD. May have something to do with it.
