I have been running the HKS SSQV for about 5 weeks now. Since I already had it sitting in my garage, I figured I'd give it a try. I am running it with the recirculation set-up. I did experience a couple of stalls the first week... but discovered that I had it set too soft. Now I seem to have it pretty dialed in, works great.

I got this of a site featuring all sorts of blow of valves. Reckon this particular make may address some of the leaking issues of the valve.

"The HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve (SSQV) is a dual stage pull type relief valve. Unlike other blow off valves that are push type, the SSQV will not leak under high boost conditions nor under vacuum at idle. Being of a pull type valve structure, the SSQV can not physically leak under any level of boost because boost pressure also keeps the valve closed against its seat. The SSQV is actuated by pressure alterations only, not by the rate of pressure or vacuum in the line, which ensures a quick valve response and complete closure during idle. On typical blow-off valve designs, a large valve is utilized in order to accommodate high boost / high horsepower applications. Can be vented to intake with recirculation kit or to the atmosphere. If you want this to bolt on to your EVO you will need the flange Kit & Recirculation Kit below."

I don't know which "other blow off valve" they are referring too, because almost every other DV or BOV that I have seen operates in the exact same way, this includes the Greddy, Forge, and stock valve. Unless there is some sort of malfunction, there is just no way any of these valves can open and leak under boost.
You have got to love the marketing hype though.

Thanks Silver Surfer, I just took the smaller spring out, no more flutter sound and the car runs so smooth.

surfer... go to hks's site... you will find that they designed their valve to operate in the "reverse" fashion that was minorly discussed earlier on in this thread (the boost holds it closed).

if you wanna run VTA blow off valves you have to get a stand alone engine management system, apparently e-manage by greddy works also. that means if you want the cool noise... get a laptop.

certainly it is true that not all BOVs work for all applications (cars), that's why they are adjustable and with adjustability comes variety in application.

my question would be: with a recirc kit on an hks bov would you still experience low boost-scenario compressor surge (i.e. under 800 rmps or whatever)

Again reverse of what? They all work this way "the boost holds it closed". It's just BS marketing hype, the only thing unique about the HKS is the dual chamber. IMO this is more of a gimmick for the funcky sound. Don't get me wrong it's a nice valve, HKS usually makes nice stuff, but it's really not that different or better than some of these other valves we have talked about.

Read my original post, this valve like all others falls under the same rules. If you get the correct spring tension it should work fine. From what I have read, this valve may have to much spring tension just like the Greddy.
Or like you said switch from MAF to speed density with a stand alone and then running VTA and/or pressure surges are not an issue.

Hybrid BOV

Hello all....I may have missed it in this long thread....but has anyone mentioned to you guys about using a hybrid BOV that has both the plumback and the VTA?

Both my buddie and I had one on our previous cars (GVR4, GSX) these valves have both the plumback as well as the VTA. They worked great and eliminated the problems associated with dsm's and VTA.

Actually the rally racers in Australia have been producing these top quality valves for quite some time now... there are two companies that I have gotten valves from, they are:

Turbosmart

and

GoFastBits

I will be ordering the GFB Hybrid soon, since it worked so well with my old GVR4.

Hope this helps you all out a little.

Psssssssssssshhhtttttt!!!

Regards,

Peter

p.s. if anyone is interested in the GFB BOV's... New Dimentions has them for the cheapest I've seen.

Post Compression Surges

Ey Surfer, I was readin in other forums that if you put an after market BOV w/out a recirculation pipe, you'll encounter frequent compression surges in EVOs...i was wonderin if you kno anythin about this. -

Bom's Evo try to reverse the orientation of the valve you might have it in backwards. Should be like stock top of BOV faces front of car not hood. This might helps but maybe not I have the stealth black DV and has caused me nothing but trouble with all the springs I have tried I still get jerky ride coming out of corners and sometimes at highway speeds So It is now in the garage and I probably will not put it on my new Evo.Expensive paperweight!!!

Did you put in a longer vaccum hose?... If not, check your vaccum line it's probably pinched. It doesn't matter which way you orientate the forge bov, it works in either direction.

I got compressor surge with both in, even with the screw all the way out. My BOV sounds like **** now though, real high pitched squeel when it opens.

i changed the vacuum line to the bov to a silicone one. the old one wasn't even kinked.

and yeah mine sounds like a chick still chirp chirp. but when the air box is open i hear lots of AIR!

who has a FORGE DV with STOCK AIRBOX? what does yours sound like?
