Hey guys i was wondering. i know that alot of guys including myself did the hks 264/272s with my stock turbo setup. I see and notice alot of guys have that setup. But now that im upgrading to a 50 trim kit would i see significant gains if i went to the 280s or would it be a waste of money/time to do? Also i see that the recomment you do change our your valve springs and retainers but i see on some people sigs where they have the 280s but dont have sprigns and retainers listed as mods. Basically are the needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Matt

May I suggest that to economize a little you just buy a 280* intake cam, either HKS or GSC, and that way you can run the 280i/272e combo which Iīm running.
This way you canīt lose, as at a later date you can always get the 280* exhaust cam, if it turns out that you arenīt happy with the staggered setup.

Yes I would do a search on their turbo kits , turbo kit is not something you want to jump right into

Actually no im not kidding about the RNR kit. Yes i did purchase one of their kits. But i did not purchase the kit from them i bought from another member here on the boards. Its brand new. And no it doenst look like the kit that was posted on here in the vendor review section. And that did'nt answer my question. Im trying to get opinions on whether or not it would be worth my time to upgrade to the 280s or keep what i have.

And also its not something i just jumped right into. And i bought my kit before all these reviews and negative things have been said about them. If you look at my mod list i have all other supporting mods that i need to upgrade the turbo if i would like. Which is exactly what i am doing. Grant it alot of people haev had problems with RNR, like i posted in the other post i made My kit did'nt look like the other kit that was posted on here. Also i have never had a problem with ryan PMing me back. Which i dont plan on having to deal with them since i didt actualy buy the kit through them i buoght new from a member on here. But again please try to keep this on topic dont need a vendor bashing here.

I would save my money and stay with what you have now. Its really not going to make all that much difference. I have an RNR GT37R turbo kit and its awesome.
Its to bad that people have had a bad experience as of late, but for us guys that got our kits before are all pretty happy.
Good luck!

ok thats fine and all, but you never said you had already purchased the turbo kit so I was going on what your sig says (soon to be RNR 50 trimmed out). We were just looking out for you thats all, far from vendor bashing. HKS 280 cams can be run on stock valvetrain but will take some tuning to idle well on the stock ecu. Are you running the stock ecu or AEM?. DB and AMS saw a nice gain from switching out the HKS 280s over to the higher lift Revolvers (upgraded valvetrain).

typically you will lose some low end switching over to the 280's, but im sure your 50 trim will compensate in sheer fun factor. hope this helps

Buschur also saw a big gain going from HKS 272/272 to HKS 280/280. Unless you are going to rev higher with the 280s than the 264/272, I'm not sure why a valvetrain upgrade would be more needed with one vs. the other. I've never heard that the ramp rates are that different and the max lift is same for both.

FWIW a good friend of mine runs the 264/272 combo on an AMS 50 trim and the car flat out rips. Seems very well matched for the turbo. It is the most fun EVO I have ever driven and I have driven a lot of Evos. No track times yet or dyno numbers but feels like 450 plus to me on meth and 30 PSI.
