General IX Engine/Turbo questions

Hey all-

So I've literally spent the last hour plus on this site trying to find this info, but because there is so much info, dating all the way back to what feels like the ninth century its all deluted and I cant find the info on what I am looking for.

If I am just a fool then just point me in the right direction, but I am looking to know the following basic material for my IX:

1) I hear the IX runs a TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T turbo, but what is the max psi it can handle w/out blowing? I believe its set to 22 PSI stock (right?) but whats the max safe output?

2) How many catalytic converters on this car and where are they? I know there is one in the midpipe, but is the other in the uppipe, downpipe where?

3) Insert a really good point here that I should know about the car (And dont say the search feature, I'm talking car only). This could be offset for the wheels, an amazing part, whatever.

Thanks, I'm trying to learn as much about this car as I can and with any luck and some good answers we can sticky this somewhere for other IX owners to come and get there info.

1) Stock peaks at 20 and tapers to 15-16. With meth injection or race gas and a proper tune, I believe the stock turbo can run up to 28psi

2) One cat

3) The IX is an excellent platform, but it can behave erradically when mods are done carelessly. It's dangerous to put on an intake, blow off valve, or turbo-back exhaust without paying attention to AFR and boost creep, or getting a proper tune. As long as you understand that the IX is a highly tuned engine that depends on precise parameters to function properly, then you will be happy to own and to mod one.

1) There is no answer. No.

2) One - I'm sure that was easy to find while searching. It resides where a cat normally resides - right in the middle between the downpipe and cat-back. That's what the term cat-back is referring to...

3) It has 4 wheels and tires.

This is by no means a sticky worthy thread. The first 2 questions are basic, common knowledge. The third is just random.

4) Search.

1) Not too many people report blowing up the stock turbo, now safety tune wise is another thing, with the extra cooling passages in the head most people can get away with 23-24 psi on pump gas when properly tuned

2) One

3) Slap intake, turbo back, mbc + flash on it and it runs low 12s lol.

Let me know if you need anything, the ex wingless subaru guys gotta stick together lol.

there isnt ONE cat there is two stock.

There is a cat immediately exiting the dump pipe, as well as one in the centre of the exhaust system.

or at least there is in our standard FQ280 evos in Australia.

Don't know what a dump pipe is, but we only have one cat on USDM Evos.

boost isnt at 22 (at least for usdm ones)

there's only ONE cat for usdm evos

evos are the fastest cars in its class and under $30k...not to mention it has 4 doors, awd, 5 seats, 2 front bucket seats, turbo, and it's faster than many Sports cars...

The FQ280 is no better than your IX. Maybe you were referring to the FQ340/360/400.

Ah, I see that Warrtalon is going to play the role of "that moderator". Good to know.

Everyone else, thanks for the tips and the help. Like I said, its difficult to sort through 3.8 million posts, especially when you think you've found the tright thread but come to find its from 2004 talking about an EVO6 or whatever.
