HKS vs Comp Cams?

Just curious...

Anyone had experience with both in evos? Trying to make a decision,
pros/cons? I like the price of Comp. Cams much better

I think comp is better for more power down low and HKS is for more up top.

I have the Comp 272s in my EVO and have had expeirence with HKS Crower and Comp with the DSMs. I like the comps alot I have to say that Comps have about 20 thousandths more lift and very simialar durations. I bought mine from Forced Performance. Good Cams Good People and Good Price. What is there not to like. My vacuum at idle did drop from 16in to about 12-13in but idle is still pretty damn stable too. I like the Comps personally. Ive tried to find an overlay of the 2 brands but never could find one.

This is why I chose the Comps over HKS. I knew getting the 280's I would take a low-mid range tradeoff for more power up top. The Comps were cheaper and the higher lift helped to generate a few more ft lbs of torque lower in the rpm band. If I can find my old dyno sheets I will post the overlays.

Ev0cRaZy,

Your sig says you have a 37r. Why dont you just get Dave Buschurs new cam set? They are built for larger turbos and are pretty cheap.

I just got my car back yesterday after getting a new clutch HKS 272 and AEM cam gears. The car is alot faster. I can't compare the two but you can't go wrong with HKS. Not saying that comp cams are cheap by any means cause if you look at the V8 world they are some of the best out there. Comp has been around for a while in the V8 world but not so much or has a better reputation than HKS. Either one your going to be happy. I am.

I've got Comp 272+'s and like them a lot. No experience with HKS though.

I will tell you that Comp had a bad batch of exhaust cams go out where the CPS bolt hole was not tapped properly. Other than that no other issues I've heard of.

I heard about that. I bought mine right about that time. I check the threads before the install with a tap. It went in easily. Not as clean and easy as I expected but it was no way part of the batch I would say. Also Forced Performance was selling Comp DSM cams before the EVO ever hit the shore. I also respect FP alot as they have been doing what they have been doing with alot of knownedge and testing for along time.
