Exhuast testing Round 2 - HKS vs Buschur

Here we go again, more R & D and testing here at Dyno Flash and The Shop

We had a chance to test a HKS exhuast vs a Buschur Exhaust - its a new hobby of mine to test various exhausts

Today's test was a IX Evo

Mods

Greddy Profec B II EBC
Walbro Pump
HKS Carbon / TI cat back
Megan Resonated Test Pipe
Unkown full 3" down pipe

93 octane - 21 psi peak boost - car was very knock happy - timing was conservative

We tested this against the Buschur full 3 " Bullet V Band exhaust system

I was suprized not to see more power from the Buschur vs. the HKS - but the tale of the tape showed between 3 - 9 whp gains

Lets face it HKS is a premium product and they do great R & D and their product worked very well

The Buschur system - full 3" T/B did weigh exactly 20 lbs less than the HKS system and it costs less as a complete syetem (non V band version) shipped than just the HKS cat back

Note - I have scaled the dynbo sheet to zoom in on the gains and losses

This is how we test the exhuast weights

Side by side

Yes - I was expecting 20 whp gains from the Buschur

Still the 3- 9 whp gains through most of the power band were a healthy increase considering we are testing one performance unit vs another

HKS is obviously very good

Buschur was better

Obviously on a more powerful car the gains may have been greater - (we may test that soon)

That is Jimmy - owner of The Shop - www.theshopct.com

He is a really nice guy and I appreciate his kindness to tolerate my new hobby which ties up lifts and wastes dyno time

Isn't the HKS not a full 3" exhaust? At least the downpipe to my knowledge?

that doesnt matter... it is, what it is... thats the product... the hks didnt have a test pipe which would put them dead even

Does that mean that you think the Megan resonated test pipe costs 3 - 9 whp ?

Maybe more testing is in order ?

For better control, using the same exact test pipe would have been optimal. Although, we can't complain because YOU are doing all the work. The community applauds you

Me either, but I always appreciate a business who is willing to allow me latitude to do R & D and testing

Especially at the end of the day most guys want to go home

I love being part of a team that stays there as long as it takes to do what ever we need to do just becuse we like doing it
