Clutch Help!!!!

Ok so my clutch is fully broken in and the weather is nice out today so i went for a spirited drive. Clutch is working fine and not smelling at all. Im waiting at a red light and i do and easy take off. no launch at all just listening to the music and taking it slow. shifted in to second gear and mashed the gas. car took off and i went into 3rd and just coasted. my turn was coming up so i down shifted and made the turn. came to a stop to let my friend out and thats when it started acting up. the catch point was about 1 inch off the floor and it grabbed very very hard. also the clutch pedal is shaking now. before the clutch would grab with in the last 2 inches that the pedal could travel out. i herd no noises and is not smelling at all. what could have happened? o ya its an exedy twin hd

There are a few things that could cause this but my guess is that the release bearing is no longer attached to the pressure plate properly and now the bearing is crooked because of the snap ring being dislodged. This would cause both the low engagement point and the pedal pulsing. If this is the issue then you need to get it fixed before the center comes apart on the pressure plate.

o great......well before i read that i went out for a quick drive to see if it was ok. went one block and turned around. started off ok getting out of the parking garage. then when i pushed the clutch in, it didnt disengage. car kept moving forward. so i went to turn around and park the car. could not get it back into 1st. after trying for a while i got it in and the car started moving even though the clutch pedal was all the way in and i almost stalled. parked the car and now im afraid to turn it on because i cant get it into gear and if i do it takes off....please help asap thanks

That's not a good sign. Before you go and tear it down, do whatever you can to check everything else. Pull the pedal off the floor, check the obvious stuff like hydraulic fluid, pedal assembly, clutch arm, etc, but most likely you are hosed and will end up taking it apart to find out if I was right or not, and fix whatever is broken. Sorry for the bad news. Keep us posted.

If the snap ring became dislodged, then the center pieces that attach to the top of the pressure plate usually get destroyed. These peices cannot be bought seperately, but they can be stolen from another used pressure plate or Exedy may be able to help you out with a fix.

i just seen this in a car i diagnosed. The center floater plate was stuck. ie no longer free floating. This seems to be the new trend with twin discs. PJ's tilton did the same thing. Floater was wedged and quit free floating. Since the floater is stuck against one of the discs, it keeps enough pressure on the tranny to keep you from going into gear. I bet you 10 bucks that you no longer hear the rattle with the clutch pushed in..........You need to pull it and check the clutch, IMO. ray

After looking back at the posts I realized that I misread one of them, I think rraulston may be on to something as well, especially if you got the clutch hot.

#1. push in the clutch and start the car (if you can) Does it rattle like when first installed???

#2 put car in first, push in clutch then start car. Start driving. Push in the clutch, rev car and dump it gently while moving. Some how this kid shocked the clutch and got it working. Next day he was driving a Denali........you may be able to pry with somthing, just be carefull and dont touch the throw out bearing.

Hey Jeff, if you don't have it figured out by friday, can you somehow get it over to my house? we'll take a look at it and if we have to can take it all apart. hopefully it wont come to that but we'll do whatever needs to be done.
