Custom Intercooler End Tank's

I've been looking into doing a custom intercooler setup using a Garrett core. I've read up on the subject and know that end tank design is very important. What I'm looking for is a place that could design and make end tanks to my specifications.

Does anyone know a good place to some made up?

Does anyone have a good link on designing end tanks?

Anything custom is going to cost a good amount of money unless you know somebody.

If I had more experience welding aluminum, I would make them myself.

I really doubt welding up some end tanks for me is cost some outrageous price, in fact getting the core by itself and having end tanks made for me, will probly be cheaper than comparible intercoolers from well known shops.

However, if i could find a place that could do cast end tanks, that would be ideal.. Don't know how easy or expensive that's going to be though..

But that's why I started this thread..

Bell intercoolers. http://www.bellintercoolers.com/

Might be worth it to just have them do the whole thing for you.

I had them make me one from dimensions I read to them over the phone for my old GTI...Came out amazing. Top quality welds. And they know their S**T.

Thanks, I was going to ask if you had a pic.

Interesting site, they seem to be pretty knowledgable, however if I decide to go with them, I'll probly just get the end tanks from them.

They say they use bar and plate cores, I'm planning on using a tube and fin core, but they look like the do good work.

I appreciate the help.

end tank design is important...Most of the Direct fit evo FMIC's have a pretty poor end tank design due to space constraints and the fact they all use the same 24x12 garrett core...We have done quite a few Evo FMIC's using a 18x12 garrett core with some good flowing endtanks.

Do you have any pictures of the ones you've done?

The core I want to use is a Garrett tube and fin core, the measurements 27.8 x 12 x 3.3

Oh, and I'm going to be using custom piping as well..

Bump..

Anyone else have any recommendations on places to have them made?

Any engineer's have any good designs?

Or a website that could help me design some?

Anybody done any testing to prove endtank design matters all that much? I'm thinking that the thousands of fins causing turbulence in the core produces a MUCH larger pressure drop then the endtanks.

As for air distribution, I've messed with some 2-D SS finite element flow analysis of various endtanks designs and I honestly think it is going to be pretty hard to produce an endtank that disperses the air evenly without having an excessive pressure drop.

I'm no expert, but I'm in the mind set that nice big endtanks that are square are just as good as some highly developed shape that promotes even distribution and minimal losses. I have this opinion simply because of my 2-D stuff has led me to believe the cost/benefit is just flat out not worth the effort at any level. They do LOOK like they would add performance though.

I'm not looking to get all super technical with the design, I dont want squared corners at the top and bottom though, they would develop turbulance in the corners.

I was thinking something like the ARC end tanks, nothin crazy, just small, and a good design that will spread the air throughout the core.

Only thing is, cast end tanks would be the best, and I dont know how easy that will be to do.
