Same here, completely forgot about it.

I had a similar experience at Buschurs. Dave commented on how much heat my intake temps picked up over a dyno pull, when I know I picked up much less than that on a full 4 gear drag run in the previous season. I checked a third gear pull on the street, and while it picked up much less than it did on the dyno, it was still too much. I'm going to take before and after logs of intake temp later this week, cleaning the IC in between. I need to get off my ***, get some 3/8th line, and vent the VC properly too. This is practically a free mod, and those are hard to pass up. I think I've become either stupid or lazy since my 2g days...

What's wrong with using gasoline/mineral spirits etc.? (It's been asked a few times and suggested a few more so this is directed in "general" not to anyone one single person here) Well from where I am sitting if I suggest you use gasoline and in the middle of you doing this your friend comes over smoking a big fatty and accidently lights your dumb *** on fire there is a good chance your lawyer will sue me for suggesting it. If you happen to cause any sparks in your garage while doing this, you know, like the one in your light switch everytime you turn on a light, then you could also burn yourself up.

So rather than take a chance of something stupid happening and then the burns you making your face even uglier than it is now, you could go to home depot, buy a gallon of Greased Lighting and clean out your intercooler. You could even degrease your filthy shop floor and engine bay while you are at it.

Please don't use something flamable, it just makes no sense. What are going to do with these solvents when you are done? Dump them down the drain into the rivers/streams where it will end up? It just makes no sense to use gasoline or paint thinner, laquer thinner or the other crap.

There are too many GREAT better cleaning water soluable agents on the market.

Dave -- Can't folks prevent getting oil in the FMIC (or intake runners) by using a DC3 or similar catch can for the manifold and PVC outlets? I would have thought that most cars running big turbos would have gone this route, but I may be wrong...Thanks

grease lightning contains NaOH/Sodium Hydroxide/lye in it thats why it degreases so well...

sodium hydroxide is an etch use for aluminum patterning

Ummmm, isn't the intercooler made of aluminum? Or did you just mean that it discolors aluminum and if washed out right away will not be a problem?

My evo is tuned for the track. When I datalog, and do individual 3rd gear pulls, everything looks great. When I do a wot pull, haul down on the brakes, and then another wide open pull (ie simulating track conditions), my afr's get really rich. I've asked around and attributed this to heat soak, but I wonder if the efficiency of my intercooler is way down. (55 k miles, 20+ track days). I guess I should log intake temps as noted above. Hopefully evoscan does this

Didn't you also have a turbo blow up on you?

if you have your intake pipe with a breather filter we don't have to worry about this problem right?

I meant don't put Greased Lighting on polished aluminum. It is awesome on cleaning but will take the shine right off of it if it is polished.

I do not run a catch can, I run both hoses off the valve cover down and "under" the car. I would like to build a catch can similar to the one that Crawford makes for the Subarus but there is no good way to do it.

That's what I did with the VC vent and the PCV port on the 2g. I'll do the same thing with this POS.
