Well I was able to clean out my intercooler this afternoon. I just used gasoline and quite a bit of oil came out of that intercooler. The car actually feels pretty good after all the cleaning.

what are you guys doing with the gas after cleaning your IC? oh, SlowCar, you said to then rinse the IC out with acetone(like from the hardware store)correct?

get as much of the water out of the IC as you can and either leave it in the sun to dry or put straight acetone into the IC, shake it around. When it evaporates, it takes the water with it

The intercooler does not have to be that dry inside. Drain the majority of it out, leave it stand on it's end for 30 minutes after you clean it. It will be plenty dry enough.

Would you guys stop sweating all the crap in this thread. Get some cleaner, dump it in your intercooler, rinse it out and re-install it. Stop sounding like a bunch of panty wastes.

The Greased lightning, simple green etc. is not going to harm the freaking intercooler.

This is not rocket science, if it was I couldn't have managed it myself.

ater i got done cleaning the IC with gasoline, i put the gas in an open container and let it evaporate, then dump the rest in with the used oil from oil change and take it to autozone.

Put 2 gallons of Shell 87 octane through my AMS i/c today. Did two full rinses with it. The first one really yielded some nastiness. Things were crystal clear by the second drain It feels nice to start fresh and clean with the adition my dc3's

man the easiest way to clean the thing is hook a 5 gal jug to a shop vac, then coming out of the top of the jug is a duct hook directly to the charge. at the other end of the charg you pour whatever the hell solvent youl like, sodium hydroxide pellets, hydrazine, whatever, seriously - freon works best. In the jug collects all the crud that was in the IC

This thread has been sitting for a while, but whatever. Here is what one highly knowledgable individual said about cleaning out an intercooler with gasoline:

Do the math, work out the moles. Under boost, the air's coming out of the turbo at over 200°F, and at 3000RPM you're moving ....ah.... well, lots of cubic feet of air through an intercooler and intake pipe that's only ....er..... not much volume. It'll be dry before you finish reading this.

Also, no one is saying you should use gasoline in a garage where sparks/eletrical connections could be made. It is always said that one should be doing this process in a well ventilated area (aka outside) when using gasoline. And no one is telling people to pour gasoline on the ground or in the grass. All of us with brains know how to properly dispose of the waste. Use your head.
