does your evo sound like this

O.K. Folks, please take a moment and help a fellow evo owner. Many of you are aware of the transmission failure thread and decel noise threads. I have an appointment with the regional rep next week and want to do a little homework first. I am posting this pole becuae up to this point techline has been telling my dealer that the noise my evo makes under deceleration is "inherant to all evo's". I find this rather hard to believe and would like some numbers to back up my argument. Please listen to the following sound clip (and keep in mind that it was made on an mp3 jukebox with the builtin pinhole mic) then vote:

Mine makes that noise. It has 500 miles on it and is less than a week old. My 91 Talon also makes that noise with 127,000 miles on it, and my 99 Eclipse GS made a similar noise after I installed a Quaife LSD. I doubt Mitsu will do anything, and I personally don't think it's out of the ordinary. I will be changing all the fluids after break-in so I'll look then to see if anything 'abnormal' comes out of the tranny. Good Luck.

After listening to the clip....I still voted yes. But my decel noise doesn't quite sound as rough and chattery as yours.
The mp3 almost sounded like something was about to break!
Dunno if its just the quality of the sound making me think that though.

I still have a decel noise at 2200 miles, but its doesn't seem to have gotten any worse since I first started noticing it at 300 miles.

The tranny has a whine to it and its overall a noisy car as far as road sound exhaust tranny but if you are getting a clickity clack in your shifting that part is not right. I feel for you nothing worse than getting your new ride and feeling like its busted. Have you ridden in another Evo? could you hook up with someone in the forum that lives in your area and have them give you a ride? that could help compare a little better the recording is hard to really make out whats really going on.

I'm still working on finding another evo owner in the area (norcross, georgia) so I can do a ride along with them.

The recording is bad but given the circumstances it was made under and the fact that you can still hear the decel noise .. I was holding the recorder in my hand while driving (part on the interstate and part on a surface road after getting off the interstate..

I just wanted to get the ball rolling as I build my case. I plan on getting a better recording from under the hood, but don't have all the gear I need yet.

My car does indeed sound like that, maybe not as loud inside the cabin though.

Mine sounds the same at 2400 miles. The decel noise your probably hearing is from the welded/pressed heat sheilds around your cat or the so called acceleration valve in your muffler. I've owned several stick cars and all make a similiar whining/vibrating metal/garguling noise on decel. It was usually an exhaust heat sheild of some kind exagerating the sound. It would be interesting what the Mitsu rep says...............good luck. "BLKEVO8" is right, find another EVO and compare.

Mine makes the same noise, but much quieter, though I'm assuming the harshness of your recording is due to the recording equipment. BLKEVO8, you say yours doesn't make that sound? I'd be interested in taking a ride in your car to hear it if you ever have a spare moment.

Thanx for the input man... good ideas to mess around with. I could drop in a test pipe and a catback and see what diff it makes, since I plan on doing a cat back... may talk to the rep and see if he can get the ralliart catback for "testing/troubleshooting" purposes

I think it could be the front diff. You should have him get the Ralliart front LSD for comparison, too.

Just what kind of problems are you talking about? Anyone else hearing any stories of possible problems with the EVOs?
