Will an air intake viod the warrenty?
i have to take my car to the dealer this thursday to look at the tranny/deceleration issue, will they tell me my warrenty is void because of only an air intake?
You can't void the entire warranty, per se. However, if you have a failure of a normally warranted component, but the failure of that component can be contributed to a non-factory modification, or abuse, your warranty claim can be denied.
So doubtful that your gear-noise / deceleration whine (if I understand the problem correctly) could be attributed to the modification you specify.
Adios,

Dealer told me "mitsubishi encourages 3 mods on the Lancer that won't void the warranty, intake, exhaust, lowering"
He said if I had a problem with an OEM part that malfunctions because of the intake he'd replace. Maybe each dealer works different. My particular one had a fairly done up Lancer OZ in the showroom, lowered, rims, intake, exhaust, test pipe replacing one of the cats. He claimed to have RRM pistons but I'm not sure. Sure didn't sound stock though, beyond the intake whistle.
Don't worry about it, and if they try to pull one on you take it to another dealer.
Worst comes to worst and they won't fix it at the dealer, put the stock intake back on and try again, chances are they won't remember you and fix the car.

Its really only an issue if it comes down to a warranty claim that requires an inspection from a mitsubishi representative, and not the dealer. Depending on your relationship with the dealer they will probably fix alot of things under warranty.. If its a high dollar item like a transmission, or a blown engine, then it usually needs to be mediated or inspected by a mitsubishi motors rep.. in that case you could have trouble. To make a long story short, MANY dealers will look the other way, but it really depends on how well they know you, and if the shop has a reputation at stake where making the customer happy is a higher priority than nitpicking modifications.

Want me to read it for you too?
Just run a search for "warranty" and you'll find all you need plus more, PLUS detailed information on what to do should your dealer attempt to void your warranty unfairly.
