EBC with the Xede or not....????

I recently purchased a Blitz SBC Spec R and will shortly get tuned with the Xede on an AWD dyno. I want to hold at least 19psi all the way to redline. Will this be possible with just the Xede or will I need and/or benfit from the Blitz EBC...?? If I don't need or shouldnt use the EBC i will probably sell it if anyone wants it. Its brand new, in the box, directly from vivid racing. Unopened and everything....

I think boost control is being tested right now and should be available very soon. I would wait for that to be added, then purchase the XEDE and use that for everything. It's supposed to be able to control boost using the stock boost control solenoid.

Im kinda worried about part throttle/full boost too.....

I dont have a boost guage hooked up yet, so I dont know what boost is limited to at part throttle, I know this was a problem with the WRX as the boost controller allowed you to get full boost at partial throttle, thus making the engine lean. Its feels like in the EVO, I can almost hit full boost at partial throttle, like in 4th or so.. but without a boost guage i dont know for sure...

Part throttle driving has no ill effects. You shouldn't experience any boost issues at part throttle like the WRX. I think the WRX had a much more complicated ECU, while the Evo is not quite as complex and those issues just don't exist for us.

I have a boost gauge so I'll play around with part throttle and see what boost is like. I can tell you that response has been no worse for me with the XEDE.

im just worreid that with a boost controller, you will be able to hit full boost at part throttle, which may cause a lean mixture, again though I may be mistaken. This was only the case with the WRX as the ECU only wanted to see like 7-8lbs at part throttle. If you jack that up to 1 bar or 14.5~ psi, you would be running lean. That made part throttle on the WRX annoying because you would have to floor it.

Can you see how many psi you get at partial - 3/4 throttle in 3rd and 4th?

In just a little bit I'm going to hook up an wideband o2 to my car and then I can test not only boost, but a/f at part throttle. In the meantime, I would email or call Shiv and see if he has an answer for the potential part throttle issue you're talking about.

Thanks Mark. Im VERY interested to see your results! Please please post them for me/us!

I sent Shiv an email, hopefully I will hear back from him sometime this week. I planned to install; Boost Guage, Turbo Timer, EBC all at the same time so I'm not tearing my dash apart three different times. So I want an answer on the EBC before I do everything...

although, if you dont have a boost controller, you may not be able to hit full boost at part throttle....but its good to find out first if it IS possible on the stock boost controller. If it IS then, an EBC or MBC will be fine in part throttle/full boost situations....

hope that mumbo jumbo made sense hehe...

Hi Mark,

What brand of wideband O2 sensor are you going to install?

Yeah you can, but he hasn't installed his boost controller yet (not even opened the package) and is planning on purchasing the Xede and wants to know if the BC is even necessary if installing the Xede.

To answer someones question earlier in the thread.. Yes, you can hit full boost at part throttle.. Usually if the engine is under load.. and No, you can't really hurt things at part throttle because the engine runs closed loop at part throttle.. it will compensate mixture based on RPM and Load at part throttle.. at wide open throttle, it uses a map, which is basically "Pre-set" values depending on several engine factors (RPM, Fuel quality, ambient temp, etc.. could be more or fewer of these items, but my experience in this case is from my Dodge Neon) Its basically just a bunch of values that it matches depending on RPM and uses, with a few dynamic items to compensate for potential variables.
