Help me find a 4.11 gear, please!
Well, I just bought a set of 4.11 a few months ago and I think it's from a local mitsubishi salvage yard. My engine builder informed me that the 4.11 is from another mitsubishi, I didn't ask him from which car but most likely a stock galant vr4 or something like that, and that some name brand company (don't want to mention who) simply buys them from factory new and repackage it and sell it at a higher price. I put the 4.11 in since I needed a new clutch and right now my car feels soooo undrivable, the gearing makes a "big" difference. I think this 4.11 will work out for me if I put my 2.3L GT40R motor in, but in the mean time I'm definately suffering. If you really needs one badly I know the salvage yard have a few more 4.11's but it's used.
I dont know why anyone would want to run a 4.11. Your launch will suffer as well as your E.T. To improve your E.T. and launch you should install the 4.85. Its a ralliart piece and half the price of a 4.11.
The is one reason and one reason only to choose a 4.11 or 3.73. To increase top speed. EVERY other area will suffer as a result.

Having to shift into 5th gear hurts E.T as well.

Your statement is not even close to correct. Hers is some good info on this subject.

For guys using a stroker motor, crossing the line at 9,000 rpms or higher isn't the smartest thing to do. The motor isn't going to last very long ringing it out that high. Switching out to a longer gear will also be easier on the drivetrain parts for a high horsepower car.
I think the longer gear will help if stock gearing is having you go into 5th a considerable distance from the line, especially using a stroker motor.
This is all new to me so I guess this is going to be trial and error.
I think you are somewhat correct, but that depends on how close you are to crossing the line @ the 1320 mark when switching gears.
