act clutch broke after 20k miles

The center section around the springs of my act clutch broke after a little less than 20k miles, I have launched once or twice and have never taken it to the track. I am sure I will never get it warrentied out as I can't rember what vendor on here I purchased it from. I had similar probs in my 1g years ago. Has anyone here had this type of failure? I guess I need a new clutch now I am not so sure I want to use act again. This really sucks, I want to make sure this dosent happen again. Please chime in if you may have any insight.

I had the same thing happen to my ACT2600 in my Talon years back. The damage occurred though because I was consistently hot lapping my car at the track with 6500 rpm launches.

Good luck with getting it replaced/fixed.

That is exactly what happend to mine. Wtf? Well I guess it is not a fluke. I just want to go with a company who stands behind their product.

20k miles is not saying much really. For some 20k miles may mean about 1000 shifts due to alot of highway drives. For others 20k miles may mean 5000 shifts due to mostly in town driving. What is the thickness of the friction material? That would be a better discription of the use on the clutch.

For me I think 20k miles is a reasonable amount to expect out of a high wearing item like a clutch. How long did you expect it to last?

I haven't seen any troubles with the disc center sections on the EVO before so I would definitely like to look at it. If you haven't been launching the car, etc, there has to be a reason for the failure. Drop me a PM or email and let's see what we can figure out.

FYI, I have 45,000+ miles on my ACT and it's still good. It's getting a little "shuddery," but maybe that's what happens to a more aggressive clutch when it gets older. I have had 0 problems, and I am planning on replacing the ACT with another one whenever that may be necessary.

This is a daily driver with a little less than 400 hp, I Don't abuse or even really race it but I do however get in to it quite often. I am not complaning about the wear of the friction matreal but the fact that hub is cracked, Mileage has nothing to do with this problem.

I would def give ACT a chance to make this right, I have ran their clutches in both of my evo's and the quality is always there. Im sure this will be resolved, Good Luck.....

ACT is a ok clutch but its not one that will last. Under heavy abuse they will fail. I have never had problems with exedy and i've been using them for a couple years now, make the switch.
