Best cams for the money for Road Racing

Okay, I'm tired of searching through endless piles of crap. I just want straight honest opinions/answers. What do you guys think are the best cams for the money for road racing that require no modification of other internals (i.e. no valve springs or head studs)? Any other opinions as well as the inevitible "search" posts are welcome. I have been, pretty much since 10:00 Am and it is now about 1pm, all I find is junk junk and more junk.

If bang for the buck is what you are looking for, it's hard to beat the Brian Crower 272's.

I would recommend the GSC S1 cams. I had the chance to test these out at the track last weekend and loved them. I had HKS 272 cams before and I really like the S1 cams better. I haven't had a chance to try out any others so keep that in mind. There will be a complete review later this week on it with in car video.

That's what a local told me, so I am eagerly awaiting the review, but thanks for the quicky input.

I agree, you can not beat a set of brand new cams for $299. It is a no brainer to me.

I'd like to know myself. Also, would 280's be overkill with the stock Evo8 turbo, and how would 272's idle/lope compared to 280's?

Experience says that you are wrong... As a matter of fact, asside from the vendors that sale a wide variety of items, or ones who I personally know, they all say something they have available is the best. But I will give both a shot for sure, not a bad idea.

As far as your question Tha Shocker! To my knowledge (which, obviously isn't that great) the 280s just have a fairly rough drivability on a street car because they have a slightly rougher idle and a lot less low end.

I wouldn't consider Cosworth cams the best for the money. Although I think Cosworth parts are rediculously overpriced for not having any experience with the 4G63 motor...

Anyway, for the money, GSC or Kelford (who makes GSC's cams)

Camshaftshop has Kelford's, but I've heard the wait time can get long, and finding someone who has them in stock is damn near impossible.

I know you said you dont want to, but updrading the springs and retainers would be a good idea. Not much cost involved, adds some insurance and peace of mind, and you'll probly end up doing it eventually anyway.
