Nice. Would this cams be the same price as the HKS, which would be like 700 something brand new?

No they are cheaper. Depending on if you have an Evo 8 or 9 it can be either $529 or $599. Give GSC a call to confirm.

I believe that is the price for the set. I would give them a call to confirm.

That really depends on the type of racing he will be doing. Some people say "Racing", but that could really mean is a High Performace Driving School weekend. Headstuds I agree with, but valve springs I'm a bit ify on. The reason why I say that is I've ran the project evo through numerous track events for at least 2 years now and I just recently changed my headstuds. The valve train is still stock.

On the other hand, if you have the money for it and you don't mind spending it, I would say go for it. Just remember when it comes to road racing or high performance driving events there are still other things to worry about as well (engine cooling, brakes, suspension, tune, etc.), so keep that in mind.

Thanks again SPT, being that I just did a major brake overhaul and installed some new gauges I don't have the money, but I could, and plan on getting headstuds. And more than the type of racing, I hope it depends on the length of time driving on the track and distance between sessions. It is between 20-40 min a session with between 20min to 1 hour in between sessions, and yeah, its HPDE, but the only difference that has from racing is that I'm trying to set a faster time civily rather than bumping bumpers with someone else and I don't have a cage, otherwise... But, i'm 90% positive that is what you mean (i.e. 2 hours of racing straight would be iffy... but 30 min is fine). If I was really racing, cams would be far down the list after gutting the car, but its a daily driver too, since it's my only car.

If it weren't for needing a retune and a fairly hefty install bill I would get the valve springs and such too... but even on the "here's to hoping" side, the total of those two will be more than the cams.

In your opinion, if not HKS, then which cams would be your top choice for a factory valvetrain?

The S1s seem to be the most popular, not just from this thread but from many other areas of feedback I have recieved... I'm likely to be getting some on Friday if my tax return looks to be decent, once I get them installed and tuned I'll let you know my gain and post some curves... 'Case anyone else is interested...

First order of business is being 100% sure that the howling noise between 40 and 60 mph is not my rebuilt TC and is hopefully just my 65 dollar all-season tires...
