question on stock clutch

well, i already know that the clutch is weak and you shouldnt do dead stops and what not because of the transfer case and the durability of the clutch. but a few friends are just talking smack saying the reason we smelled burnt clutch was a driver error. which i was trying to tell them and their just saying ohh no its because your not good at driving. can someone explaing exactly why the clutch is garbage and not made for deadstoping. thanks for any info

You smell burnt clutch ocasionally at a dead stop???? Maybe your clutch is giving up and is time for an upgrade.

How many miles you have on it???

all depends on how you drive it. A lot are above 40K and still going strong. I'm at 34K with 330whp.

stock clutch holds up fine for anything below 400whp when properly driven...mine did 80+ passes and 15k of abuse before it died...

you dont drop it with any clutch with any transfer case, just remember that, it's ALWAYS going to be a quick slip. If anyone tells you otherwise they're ignorant.

thats exactly what i was saying, see the thing being is this is probably the third time in the 2 years i've owned it that i've done it. im honestly too worried about ****ing up the transfer case. the car has close to 20 thousand miles on her. feels fine to me really. thanks everyone for this info. im gonna go and show those dip****s this thread. see what they say afterwards.

The actual thread questioned whether or not the Evo VIII/IX clutch was the same as the the 3G Eclipse NOT the regular Lancer.

While the clutch in the Evo is not the best, as other's have mentioned there are people on here with the stock clutch in there car for over 30k. At the end of the day the modifications on the car along with the driver will determine how long any clutch lasts.

Well your friends are partly right. 90% of the people on here saying the clutch sucks dont know how to drive a AWD car. The clutch is just fine and has proven to hold quite a bit of power reliabiliby if not driven like an idiot. Most people burn the clutch because of the restrictor pill in the clutch line because they are trying to be badass and launch a 6k everywhere. People would bi*ch if it wasnt in there because they would be breaking transfer cases so then everybody would say the transfer case is weak... get my point. The car is only as good as the person driving it. Some get 5k out of them, some get 50k. But believe me the stock clutch is far better than most cars and it sure the hell isnt the same as the 3g eclipse or regular lancer....thats just typical forum gossip
